Question: Land Transport in Scenario Design

Hello, I have been on the forums for a pretty decent time and for the last half a year or so developed a ton on scenario design, but behind the scenes, I have been working on some things (which in due time I will release and I believe it's unique and interesting), on and off, my availability depending on my real life obligations. I think I have a firm grasp on a majority of functions in the scenario design part. There are a few commands that I haven't had contact yet, but I have been puzzled, and I spent like 10-20 mins a few minutes ago trying to do it, is how to put land transports without anything else, as in putting the land transport as the unit itself. I have seen some scenarios have had just Naval Transports empty as a unit itself, same with trains, and in the Grand Campaign you get two panzer-grenadier units which are two Sd.kfz 251/1 land transports that act as land transports (in it's combat performance), but also as units as there is no unit assigned to the land transport, but the land transport is the unit itself. There have also been land transports as units in the Allied Campaign in the mission where you punch a hole to Tobruk to get at least 3 out of the 4 units out of Tobruk and to the starting line where you place your core units in that scenario. They are also in the 2nd Soviet Corps scenario with Polish trucks, and in some Sealion scenarios with Trucks and Naval Transports acting as their own unit. I have tried experimenting things to figure how it was done and couldn't figure it out. Using the scenario editor and looking at Anzio (the GC 44 West scenario) the units are already placed, and they are set to spawn on the 2nd turn, and they can be copy pasted, but the land transports aren't able to be placed as a unit.

For the atmosphere in some scenarios I have used Units with a naval transport and put them a hex away from the coast (and force them to stay in the position I put them in), and same with trains, but I am curious on how to place a land transport as a unit.

Best regards

I have also search and test the editor, by creating maps, and I don't know for such a thing, but a solution could be to create a new unit in the equipment file, then you can place it as standalone unit. Otherwise I think is not possible.

I know there is a potential solution like that, but I didn't want to move to a solution like that because the land transports as a standalone unit has been present in many scenarios in the Vanilla version of the game

AFAIK, you can't place empty transports on the map while in the scenario editor. That includes land, air, sea & rail transports.

It is possible to do as Faos described above. Or you can temporarily edit the equipment file. For example, take a land transport (class 14) and edit/change it to a recon unit (class 2), place the unit on the map in the scenario editor, then save scenario. Finally, go back to the equipment file and change the unit back to a land transport again. The unit is now on the map as a land transport. Just don't remove it from the map because you won't be able to place it again without editing the equipment file.

A side note: you can edit the purchase file to allow empty transports to be purchased and deployed during gameplay. But this is a separate issue from what you're trying to do. Best of luck in your modding endeavors!

Thanks for the answer, I was aware that you couldn't place it without a unit, but I was just curious if there was a trick or way to get it placed without editing the equipment file even though it isn't that huge of a deal to do so.

And thanks for the good wishes, I have only released one thing that I have made on the forums which was an add on upon Akkula's Modern Day mod, and I have had a lot of ideas that I am now putting into my own creation that is promising, but could use expansion
