I've never been a fan of choosing your army composition after seeing the layout of the battlefield. On the other hand, there are historical examples of generals separating the shot from the pike in infantry regiments to advance into woods (see the Battle of Cheriton). It would be nice if there was an option at deployment time to break a mixed infantry regiment into component parts much like dismounting knights in FOG2M.

It would. However, I don't anticipate changes to Pike and Shot at this stage.

I know, but I haven't seen this on anyone's wish list so I thought that it was worth mentioning. Still a great game after all these years. Thanks.

But we have, quand même, detached musketeers and commanded shots that are meant to have been detached from P&S just before the combat, not to mention 500 musketeer MF units. Thus modding lists with such additional shooting units is not very difficile.

To be clear, I am suggesting using Auto Force Selection so that you are not cherry picking your units after viewing the battlefield layout. Given that, you should still be able to split mixed infantry units into elemental parts during deployment, because there is historical precedent.
