This happened last night in a game I played at the club.
A BG of mine with a TC fighting in front line lost the melee and had to take a test.
My IC was eight inchs away not in any combat could i have claimed the plus 2 he gives to any test instead of the plus 1 for the general with the BG.
As it was the other player said i was wrong any ideas.
I have read commanders in close combat section on page 99 not found anything.
Any help welcome.

Your IC may not influence the CT. A BG in close combat can ony be influenced by a general who is with the BG. (Sorry no page number reference; I am at work.) CTs resulting from shooting are another matter entirely.

IC would have to be with the BG that is fighting to do this.
No General Can influence a BG in close combat from a distance.
Having the IC attached but not fighting and a TC fighting is valid plan.
You risk lossing the IC if the BG breaks, routs, and is caught so get him out if it turns bad.

Hi Dave
I agree.
Only generals with BG's in close combat can aid them in tests as Spike found out at Birmingham.

Only generals 'with' the BG can help aid the test. So the IC could have helped had he been with them but not in the front rank fighting, whilst the TC valiantly fought at the front.

Spike
Who was not at Birmingham.

That would be Steve Clarke AKA "Spike" from the MAWS club in Manchester (not that far from Birmingham - England)
