Spahis and friends

Just curious, while getting ready to start my Moghuls...
What do you think of units like spahis or other armoured
cavalry with bow and sword in this period(Renaissance)?

Middle age is over and what was once a flexible and rather powerfull
unit is now facing mixed unit of pike and shot.
Is it really time to develop an attraction to this kind of units when the
opponents i'm going to face shoot harder and stand firmer (hope that's a word)
as far as the infantry is concerned?

(I'm aware that i can have other kind of units apart from spahis style units in
a moghul army, but just in case i'd like to play persian with mainly heavy armoured
mounted bow/swordmen)

Really just curious :)

On a short term basis look at the Turkish List, I am sure a Mughal list will come out soon for testing.

As this isn't the beta test section I would assume he hasn't got the test Turkish list ...

That's right i don't have this chance :)
I was rather a theoritical concern with the spahis typed cavalry against european
infantry^^.

Well I think all cavalry should struggle against pike n shot
Sipahi types should be cheaper than western cavalry as they have less cohesion in melee (cf cavlary and knights in FOG AM)
and also Bw is less of an advantage in this period (the infantry Sh will blow you away)
However Sipahis tended to be better horsmen than the Europeans and better mounted and faster
(I quite liked the quick kill of Pistols if they charged Si and lost in their own turn to reflect them being cut up by Si horsemanship)

I still think a good bunch of Moghul heavy cavalry should stand toe to toe with even Ironsides but I doubt anybody else agrees
Against caracolers, if you can stand their fire if you contact ou should disorder and overthrow them

I suppose your Sipahis should not be fighting the pike n shot but should be using their greater numbers to crush the European horse and win the battle of the flanks
The pike n shot should be delayed by your fire armed infantry and any "bow hordes" you have, and if the pike n shot get disordered charge them with swordsmen or impact foot

Well, as far as Moghuls are concerned, i bet i'll have to rely on synergy to make good use of the
cavalry... Go go go elephants, camels, cheap shot and all!!

using another rules system, I used LC and LI to skirmish the European foot whilts my elephants with muskets and mansabdars took out his cavalry on one wing
I think you get in trouble if they advance with foot ahead, echeloned back to guard their flanks with their horse hanging back
