My present windows laptop, 12th gen i7, 16gb ram, runs the game fine but I'll be in the market for a new one and, not knowing anything about the graphical requirements of future games of the series, would you recommend getting one with a discrete gpu or would it be overkill here?

Will pass this query on to Pip.

It's going to depend upon the performance that you find acceptable. At lower resolutions laptop parts are generally going to perform 'fine'. Integrated GPUs (especially Intel ones) are an order of magnitude slower than discrete parts. I think it's fair to say that future games will be more taxing on hardware (I think that FoGM requires more power than FoG2 e.g.).

I like to run games at the default settings, without having to lower them. Would it be fair to say that a RTX 4050 would be more than sufficient for the next 3-5 years?

Certainly for our FoG-type games, yes. It should be able to handle most games in truth.

To put it in perspective, I happily developed the games on a 1050 Ti.

Great, thanks. I only play turn based wargames anyways but I like having more-than-I-need hardware.

Dedicated GPU is a big deal. I always try to get the cheapest one for my next Windows laptop. Also, a company like Nvidia regularly updates the drivers frequently throughout the year. Some of the services and programs that get bundled in are also useful like the video recording software, etc.
