Ju 88 Icons

The Ju 88 is my favorite WW2 German aircraft, so I customized an icon for it. My version is based on several others I have seen on this forum over the last few years. I liked the dark blue color scheme, so all versions will be based on that. The main changes I've made to the icon is the cockpit and the rear facing defensive guns. A close look will also see the ventral gondola being partially visible at the front.

This is the Ju 88A-14, which had a 20mm cannon in the front of the ventral gondola for ground attack. Of note the 20mm was not the defining feature of the A-14 but a common modification. There were other variants that had the 20mm in the front of the nose glazing.

Junkers Ju88A-1 from among the aircraft purchased by the commission of General Petrov, at the Air Force Research Institute, 1940.

The Soviet Air Force bought three Ju 88A-1s for evaluation in 1940 and operated the captured aircraft.

P.s.

The German industry has produced more than 15,000 such aircraft ) After 1945 , the French Air Force was used for a while !I saw a photo of Auntie Yu-52 during the French war in Indochina! I wonder why this captured aircraft was not used there ?

The Ju 88C, which had a solid nose with forward firing machineguns and cannons. The day versions were used as long range Zerstorers (heavy fighters) and night versions as night fighters/night intruders.

The Ju 88C fitted with radar for night fighting. I label it as Ju88R (R for radar), not to be confused with the Ju 88R, which was also a night fighter with radar (which this icon can also be used for).

The Ju 88A-17, the customized torpedo bomber. The ventral gondola was removed to save weight. Some had 20mm autocannons installed through the nose glazing.

The Ju 88G, a customized night fighter. The ventral gondola was replaced with a quad 20mm gun pod. Some versions had upward firing guns called Schräge Musik, usually behind the cockpit. These weapons proved useful for shooting down British bombers at night. The G's only defensive weapons was a single rear firing 13mm machinegun behind the cockpit.

Nice work and improvements. I'll use some of your improvements on the PAK-MOD Ju-88 models if you don't mind. Keep it up

The Ju 88 P series, which had a solid nose and various heavy cannon armaments for tank busting. The first being the P-1 with a 75mm gun.

The 75mm proved to slow firing and heavy to be useful, so instead it was fitted with dual 37mm in the P-2 (and P-3 which was more armored).

Then later the P-4 with a single 50mm.
