Force selection for this 5th round of the current tourney has got me really frustrated and confused.

On the Hungarian side, both the Knights and the MaA have two versions, one with (L) and one without.

On the Ottoman side, there's an odd extra key at the bottom of the army list saying "Use FF". Clicking that button toggles on and off an (FF) note after the name of half a dozen missile units. It has a tooltip, but that tooltip just says "Toggle FF on and off". Apparently the person who wrote that tooltip didn't feel like having it explain just what the devil FF might be. Because explaining things is not at all what tooltips are for.

So, can someone please explain to me what these two notes mean?

Unfortunately, it does not seem to be possible to save and exit from Force Selection as one can from one's turn. Let's see if Alt-F4 works...

FF stands for 'Field Fortifications', which the Ottomans have the option to deploy.

Not sure what the 'L' stands for, but it seems to denote the Polish allies present in the battle. Allies are usually denoted by an asterisk, which the 'L' appears to have replaced.

I believe the (L) next to men at arms signifies that they use the late medieval model/aesthetics with the full plate armor. They're functionally identical to the men at arms without the (L).

As alexmike1 wrote, (FF) are Field Fortifications, used by Ottoman non-light infantry and artillery - you get one side of a square per unit of those types by selecting "Use FF", plus two extra sides (commonly used to fortify either flank of a line of fortifications.) They are fixed in place, so unlike stakes, you can't cart them around with you...

Not using FF saves 6 points per unit, so you might be able to buy an extra unit or two, or buy a higher-quality unit.

It's up to you if you plan to fight a defensive battle with fortifications, or an offensive battle without them.

Thanks to VideogameghisKhan for the information on the (L) signifying the use of the later full plate armor models, I was wondering what that meant.

Without meaning to cast aspersion on anyone, I hate this army list. There are 39 different listings, and you're not allowed more than three of any of them, mostly they are one or two each.
