FEEDING BASES

Had the following:

......K
....KKK
LLHHLL
LLHHLL

K=knights 3 wide frontage and 1 base behind (facing down)
L=light horse on left in corner to corner with knights
H=heavy foot facing 2 knights
L= light foot on right facing 1 knight.

Now the situation was that in the manouver phase the knight player wanted to expand the rear knight to his right bringing it into contact with the LH on my left. Because this was not a charge he beleived that the LH could not evade.

My argument revolved around page 76 where it talks about batle groups in front corner to front corner. A battle group in such a situation can shift across to bring a base into face to face contact with an opponent, however the opponent, if skirmishes or non shock cav in single line can evade directly to their rear.

He argued that this was a different situation and because it wasn't a charge they couldn't evade, I argued it was very similar situation and showed that not all evades have to be prompted by a charge.

I guess I can see both side and don't care which way it goes just want it clarified so we are all on the sema page.

He was right - p76 is not relevant here as that situation did not exist here as the LH were an overlap.

Is there no priority to expand into a BG you are in frontal contact with before one that is merely an overlap? I don't believe there is but maybe there should be?

There is nothing forcing a BG to feed more bases in to a paticular opponent.

If you have a BG of skirmishers next to a BG of non skirmishers you have to make sure that the enemy can't charge the battletroops and then feed in a base to catch the skirmishers. While it might seem odd it does limit the use of skirmishers to sneak the extra overlap dice in melee which without this rule would be a standard but very ahistorical tactic.

We tested it with such limitations and it made the game worse. Better as it is.

Skirmishers beware supporting heavy troops in combat, and they should do.

Cheers guys, for the replies. As I said I don't care either way just wanted it clairafied. Won't be letting that happen again :)
