I always check this negative trait. but how does that affect your Army. it says doesn't get ant predictions? does that mean damage predictions before an attack?

when u mouse over an enemy with ur own unit selected and u can attack u get a prediction of the outcome of the attack.

speaking of predicting turn results, if you set to 100% Random, can your units get blasted off the map even though the matchup is totally in your favor?

i tend to play with low randomness settings around 10-20% since i don´t like infantry raping tanks on open terrain due to "lucky"-shots. i have no experience with 100% randomness setting but i guess it will be even more extrem that way.

good point. never considered the "lucky shot" aspect.

Well i prefer playing on low randomness aswell, but raising it has some "benefits". first is immersion for me. war is unpredictable, and high randomness reflect that. winning battles was not just a matter of tactic or pure material/soldier numbers, sometimes luck was the answer for an unexpected outcome.
high randomness reflects that.

and sometimes its quite refreshing to play pc2 not like a chess-like game, at least for me

the second benefit is AI behavior with high rng, it changes and the AI do some attacks it wouldnt do with low rng.

---------------
i know i wrote that already, but the fact that normal infantry and heavy weapn teams are to weak on open tiles vs tanks and other high armor units in mid- and latewar is one of the biggest flaws of the game for me. because it happened. some of the ~13000 awarded tank destruction badges (Panzervernichtungsabzeichen) were earned in open terrain i.e on plains. At least it should be possible with high casualties - that would be hostorical correct.
And right now, high rng it the only solution that offers this.

I think those should mostly be against unescorted tanks, or from positions that man can hide for an ambush? Personally I find it better to make fortification tiles also Close Terrain to reflect that. Tanks are vulnerable to infantry units only when infantry can find some hideouts to catch them by surprise, be it trenches, foxholes or whatever, or they would just suppress them with MG and HE shells and pin them down.

Of ourse - light bushes, camouflage "topings (sorry i dont know the word) while laying on the ground, foxholes and so on, but nothing we would consider a "closed tile" in the game.
And during the last years of the war, when the wehrmacht was on constant retreat or in retreating battles, soviet tanks used to rush forward, leaving their infantry to chase the german units after breaking the frontline.

its hard to reflect that in the game of course, but there was room to destroy enemy tanks and as mentioned it happened. of course not that often and unter high saualties. especially some waffen-ss divisions fought in complete defiance of death, again under high casualties.
And if i remmeber correct soviet soldiers were able to do the same.

i dislike the fact, that its impossible for normal infantry to kill lategame tanks in open tiles, it should be possible to achive at least 1 kill on an enemy tank units in open tiles outside of rng and hardcore award/hero combinations. This was nothing that happened often, but it was possible on both sides and it was done.

but i really like your idea that trenches should act like close tiles or at least "half-closed" tiles.

With randomness set to zero, or very low, the "combat luck" hero must be especially frustrating for you to get! On the other hand, it would be very good for someone who plays with it cranked all the way up to 100%. Outside of a very small amount of experimentation, I have always left it at its default setting of 50%. I also often play with Arrogant checked as well. I don't find it a big deal really if you have a good understanding of the game and don't do stupid stuff.

I believe I remember the manual saying that PC1 was the equivalent of 100%...Does anyone remember or know if this is correct?

combat luck hero is blocked below 20% randomness.

PC1 had several settings with chesslike being equal to 0%. if i remember correct the other 2 settings were 25% and 50%, but that might be my brain doing stupid stuff.
