Tyronec has joined the Valois team.
the Empire is once again split evenly with 3 Habsburg electors and 3 Valois electors, can either side break the stalemate and allow Germany to either advance with religious and economic freedom, or to return to a traditional Catholic power?
The Habsburgs can choose to use armies as follows:
one player can choose English 1543-1557
one player can choose Austrian 1543 - 1558
The others will use Spanish-Imperial 1543-1559
The Valois can choose armies as follows;
one player other than Peterthe Painteror Doyley50 can choose Scottish 1494-1557
one player can choose Danish 1543-1559
one player can choose German States 1543-1559
The others will use French 1526-1549
I will post the draw on Thursday, or earlier if everyone makes their decision before then

In the army selection above I had the wrong dates for the French, its actually French 1550-1559.
The Invader sets us the battle using Age of Machiavelli, large armies, open battle in Agricultural terrain. Make the password 1554
The Habsburg invaders are;
awesum4 using Spanish-Imperial 1543-1559 invades France against Snugglebunnies using French 1550-1559
KiwiWarlord using Spanish-Imperial 1543-1559 invades Germany against Doyley50 using French 1550-1559
Lascar using Spanish-Imperial 1543-1559 invades Venice against AHuyton using French 1550-1559
The Valois invaders are;
Tyronec using Scottish 1494-1557 invades Austria against GentlemanRanker using Spanish-Imperial 1543-1559
GDodd using French 1550-1559 invades Savoy against SpeedyCM using Spanish-Imperial 1543-1559
PeterthePainter using French 1550-1559 invades Spain against SMJohnso77 using Spanish-Imperial 1543-1559
Good luck Gentlemen

Tyronec using Scottish 1494-1557 invades Austria against GentlemanRanker using Spanish-Imperial 1543-1559
Scots win 49-6
The swarm of Scots pike managed to surround the outnumbered Landshects and Tercios and either overwhelm the Tercios with sheer numbers or get in a couple of rear attacks on the Germans.

Once again Snugglebunnies proves his mastery of the game. I got clever and tried to move around both sides of the central forest. Snuggles concentrated his forces and overwhelmed one side before my second wing arrived totally. His Swiss overwhelmed my landsknechts and veteran Early Tercios.
A great game.

France captures Spain.
In future all Spanish grapes are to be used for vinegar production. Wot! No Sherry!
Spanish Troops routed 41% French Troops routed 3%.
A French army of 21,875 took on 21,550 Spanish troops. Prior to the battle both generals decided to ceremonially execute their scouting detachments for selecting a battlefield with a great big wood in the middle, hardly ideal for two armies based around Keils and Early Tercios. To make matters more interesting The Spanish lined up their army to the left of the wood (from the French point of view) whilst the French army was to the right. Clearly it would be sometime before the heavy foot came to grips. Meanwhile the lights and medium troops rushed into the wood and it soon became clear that the French had brought more massed arquebusiers to the fight and they were able to seize the wood. The French then sat in the wood taking pot shots at the Spanish whilst slowing manoeuvring the heavy foot through the wood (out of sight of the Spanish heavy guns). On emerging from the wood the Swiss mercenaries made short work of the Spanish heavy foot, whilst the French and Italian pikemen seemed to get lost only exiting the wood when the Spanish exited the battlefield.
GG to my opponent.
Once again, a big thank you to awesum4 for organising the event.

We are awaiting the result of the battle for Savoy between GDodd and SpeedyCM to complete the Campaign.
If Gdodd wins its a marginal victory to the Valois as they will hold 4 of the States.
If Speedy wins its a draw 3 States each.

Savoy is held for the French. Speedy's Spanish 12/46 against GDod's French. Again, the Swiss were unstoppable despite early successes by the Spanish.
While the French chased the Spanish clockwise around to the other side of large central forest (this seems to be a pattern) with a screen of light cavalry, a Spanish flanking force thundered onto the field on the French right only to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. They were met with most of the French force advancing to help the supports in the woods and the Swiss who were already coming to grips with the Spanish Tercios. The flanking force quickly retreated but were unable to maneuver. Subsequently, they were taken apart by infantry firepower, Reiters and Gendarmes. A number of Frenchmen retreated to the forest to harass the pike parked outside while the right hook continued it's relentless march. Having lured the Spanish knights away from the main theatre of operations the French light cavalry returned to block and overrun the sole artillery unit. While speedy's tactic was a sound way to silence the advantage of three French gun batteries and await the arrival of his missing units, ultimately the flank march arrived far too early to be useful. In fact, they were just a little "Speed bump"
An unfortunate circumstance rather than faulty generalship. Until next time speedy.
Thanks once again to Andre for organizing such an enjoyable event in such a transitional period in history.

Gentlemen,
this concludes the campaign with a serious win to the Valois, 4 States to 2,
.
Thanks to all who played in this, with it played in great spirit by all involved.
I will be setting up another campaign in a couple of weeks, but with a different basic premise, and a romp through a much longer time period.
Andre
