Steel Wolves from Compass Games

I've partially played this monster board game about the WWII German U-boat campaign. It's a great game, but my assessment matches with others who have tried to play it. It's just too massive for a board game, but would be a great computer game. It's a shame that no one has considered taking this one up, or its sister game, Silent War, about the WWII American Submarine campaign. Does anyone else know about any attempts to so a strategic naval game with individual ships (in this case subs) as the units? Shrapnel Games did a fun game with Avalon Hill's old board game, Victory in the Pacific, released as War Plan Pacific.
