Rout Move

In the image below (hope you can see it) the bad guys in yellow have just broken my med infantry in red.

Assuming their VMD results in a roll such they can not stop short of their blue friendlies behind them...

Are they forced to burst through the blue friendlies or do they flow around them in some manner?

If they cannot slide/drop back bases to avoid them then they will burst through.

Routing BGs follow the same rules as evaders and the key is that no single base can slide more than one base width sideways. In the example you gave the routers will burst through.

And to complete the answer on the above logics ...

In this case they burst through with no shifting or drop backs at all, DISRing the other friednlies in the process who will likely get hit my their pursuers resulting in an IMPACT contact next bound.

I have been doing this wrong.

I thought that evaders burst through but routers are removed (unable to complete move).

Routers are removed if enemy in the way, or if it is impossible to interpenetrate friends due to furthere obstructions beyond.
