you are correct it should be "Age of Machiavelli". I plead the stress of long campaigns over a period of 50 years.

The French have succeeded in releasing Venice from the yoke of the Hapsburgs.

Doyley50-5, Lascar-47.

The French attacked without any form of finesse,the plan being to bludgeon their way through the Spanish centre by virtue of the power of the kiels, while using the other troops to limit interference from the flanks. The kiels proved unstoppable,sweeping all before them.

Good game thanks Lascar. I was very surprised by how well my kiels did, and the result doesn't do justice to the brave fight put up by the Spanish.

The French attacked with all their available arquebusiers, most of the light cavalry, and only one battery of guns.
The plan being to hold the centre with arquebusiers in some rough and sweep around the right flank with light cavalry, which would then attack the rear of their three central gun batteries. Meanwhile, both Swiss and landsknecht keils would charge the weakened Spanish centre.
The right flank went well despite our knights being significantly delayed by the enemy early tercios and keils. On our far left the light cavalry found the going very hard but thwarted the enemy advance long enough for our stalwart Swiss and landsknecht blocks to force back the Hapsburg line.
Thankfully, the Hapsburg line eventually cracked before pursuing Hapsburg knights could wheel and fall on the rear of our keils.

A tight fight that could have been yet another Hapsburg win.

Unfortanately AlexdeTrojan has pulled out of the Campaign due to severe computer problems which made it impossible to play the game.

I have very reluctantly captured Spain due to the inability of my opponent to continue.

I'm hoping he will be able to sort out his problems and rejoin for the 6th and final round.

Still working on it Andre. I should get my laptop back from the repair shop shortly, then I will post a test game and see if the issue is solved. Fingers crossed.

ahuyton's French won against GentlemanRanker's Spanish 66-49

This was a hard-fought game, lasting until turn 22 or so. I took an early lead after some rather fortunate dice against Nick's keils, but he fought back hard and it was touch and go until the end.

It is a fascinating match-up, with the dreaded Swiss keils facing the equally redoubtable Spanish tercios. Round about them the cavalry and lighter troops are pretty evenly matched.

As ever, an enjoyable game with Nick, who was sporting and pleasantly communicative throughout.

KiwiWarlord's 23,400 Spanish Imperialists (51%) just manage to win by a very small margin and with only 2 moves to go, against Peter's 19,500 French (60%).
Battle was swinging around early on but the Spanish managed to hold on and with some French Keils unexpectedly shuddering under the Spanish volleys late in the battle Savoy was held just on nightfall.
