Just Bought Today

I bought this today and have a couple of questions. In FOG2 I could use the J key to remove the little overhead display. I don't see a hot key for this in Medieval and J does not work.
In FOG2 I was able to change the pitch to 40 by deleting the MapView folder, adjusting the pitch to 40 and then pasting that back in to Data. Doesn't work for Medieval.
Thanks.

Never mind about the mini map as I see I have to go to settings to turn it off.

Why adjust the pitch by map view instead of the standard hotkeys?

You must be doing something wrong, the MAPVIEW.txt file mod works exactly the same in Medieval. In fact it hasn't changed since this zoom mod for Pike and Shot:

Just follow the instructions precisely, and make a backup of the vanilla file first.

That is what I did, made a copy of the original MapView then copied it, changed the pitch to 40 and tried to save. However the following message appears.
"The file is set to read only" and it won't save.
As I stated in my original post, I was able to change the pitch to 40 in FOG 2.

All files in the main game installation folders are set to Read Only, it's the same in FoG2 Ancients. You have to uncheck the Read Only box in the file properties, and then you will be able to save any changes that you make.
BTW, changing pitch to 40 is a very minor change, most people wouldn't notice the difference. I think mine is set to 23.

Just in case you are not sure how to remove "Read-only" from a file here's how:
Navigate to the file, and Right click on it. This brings up a long menu of options, Properties is right at the bottom;
So left click on Properties. You will then see the MAPVIEW.txt Properties screen:
Notice the tick in the Read-only box. Left click on the box to remove the tick and then click on the Apply button:
You will then get a pop up message like this:
If you are logged in as the administrator you should just be able to click continue, and then Okay on the MAPVIEW.txt Properties screen, and you have successfully removed Read-only from the MAPVIEW.txt file.
I hope that helps.

Paul 59, thanks for the detailed instructions, I will try it. Not sure how I managed to change it for FOG2. I recall reading that changing the pitch to less than 40 could cause graphic issues with the shadows which is why I chose 40. If you have yours at 23 then obviously you are not experiencing that.

Yes early on a low number would cause shadow rendering issues, but the lighting/shadowing/normal map rendering has since been changed.
