Just brought a 25mm army off of ebay, and was wondering how do people cope with this army having no native Lh ?

Do you take a Later Moorish ally to cover that problem ?

Any thoughts appreciated

Cheers

Surely there is enough bow cavalry that you don't need LH?

There is also the possibility of a Khazar (Western Turkish, I think) ally.

Looked at that, 2 bg of Lh bw - sw with an ally-general might be interesting.

I suspet in 25mm where 1 MU is 40mm the LH have to consider a much higher likely hood of fighting and needing swords or evading off the table. I would buy LH with that in mind

Thought about that, but the army itself has a load of Lh in it as brought, shame to waste them.

Are the LH suitable for rebasing as cavalry?

Some are, and will be the Koursores, but 12 of them are 'Huns' and will become the Khazars.

No. Bow cavalry is not a substitute for LH. The inability of bow cav to turn 180 degrees and move restricts them from being able to function as they are described from acting in the manuals.

They can turn 180 degrees and move, the full move simulated as taking two turns in the rules. See withdrawals in this post:

But this is why they are no substitute for LH. They cannot turn 180 and move in the same turn.

The OP was saying that Cv can't move as in "the manuals". I was pointing out they can - nothing in the manuals
says the move must be completed in 1 turn :)

The argument that Cv are no substitute for LH is redundant. One could equally also argue LH are no substitute for Cv. Each
obviously has it's own characteristics.

Whether as a whole Maurikian could benefit from some LH is another story... personally I think Early Byzantine does
it better.
