Looking for heroes

I am looking for Heroe possibilities that can develope during a campaign.
Heres an example of how this works and what I am looking for.
So far I used those two in the PC1 remake:

Ulrich Rudel:
First recieved at the start of Fall Weiß as Air-recon in DO-17, he leaves at start of 1940 and returns shortly after Kreta as Bomberpilot.

Wittmann:
First recieved during Fall Weiß as recon, he gets promoted to artillery at the start of Greek early 1941(sadly a hero cannot be restricted to a unit, only a unit type. otherwise he would be restricted to his StuG) and finaly in 1943 to Tank commander so u can put him in his Tiger.

Do u know any prominent officers in WW2 that "developed" over time like those 2?
If u know some of other nations feel free to name them.

thx for ur replies,

Thomas

Italian Adriano Visconti started out as a Breda Ba.65 pilot, so in a tactical bomber, but later became a fighter pilot. Maybe an option for the Western path with Afrika Korps?

In the German army Otto Carius started out in infantry and then was moved to a tank unit. Hans von Luck started out in a recon battalion, so you could have some options here as well for customization.

There are a great number of Luftwaffe aces that began the war. Do you want "heroes" who survived the war, or does it not matter if they were KIA at some later point in the conflict?

One place to look, without using just the most famous names which tend to be generals and such, is to browse a list of Knight's Cross award winners. That would be a good starting point.

i am not looking fot heroes in general, but ones that develope in any way. like starting on one weapon type while young and early war and evolving over the course to diif weapon/vehicle types. Info on this is kinda none existent, its more or less accidental finds so far. ;)

carius saw no action during his time in the Panzerabwehr. he first saw action as gunner in a t38 during barbarossa in 41. maybe i can utilize that somehow. thx for the input.

his breda time was in 1940 in africa. not part of the mod so far. BUT after the italiens laid down their arms he kinda defected to germany to keep fighting and flew a BF-109. not exactly what im looking for but maybe something to get into place.

Is it possible to design your own hero in the game?
Lets say you are general Müller and your son Müller (hero) is fighting under your command?
You can decide what traits and category he gets? You once gould choose traits for rudel, maybe the mechanics are existing.

It still has to be coded from your .lua file, so yes you can decide those, but only from options the scenario designer gives. As for the choice about Rudel, it's the same kind of script, just with the code part filled according to player's choice instead of predefined one from designer (I hope I'm explaining this clear enough if you have some knowledge about programming).

creating ur own heros with their own traits is not an issue. i am thinking about giving some heroes that option during the remake of 39/40 this year.
Bad part about it is that u need a scenario to do so and the hero can't just pop up and be ready. the craeted one will be available 1 scenario after its creation, BUT with the new "undeploy hex" i created u can undeploy a unit, assigne the hero u just got and redeploy the unit with the hero. This is possible since last game-update that came with AO1944.

So yes u could absolutely do what u are suggesting there.

There are some "ritterkreuzträger" that developed from diffrent unit types. but all i checked out so far got a difficult history.

I think the best solution might be creating own fictional heros and develop them.

But i found interesting "unit" movement
- from cavalry to artillery to tank
- or anti-tank to infantry

Not from those 2, i just rememberred their unit movements...
i checked a lot of german ritterkreuzträger to find some possible heros for this thread.

but i found a name that might fit better:
Horst Niemack

He started as a "Rittmeister" - Cavalry
But he was used in a recon division, in an infatry division, in a pak division and in a tank training division during the war.

After the war he served as a general in the new german military.

good thing i am german and don't need to rely on the english wiki ;)

https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horst_Niemack

just compare the size ;)

i can see his cavalry time early WW2 which is the same as the time in the recon division.(Kavalry was used as recon early ww2), I can see his time as commander in a Tanktraining school after being wounded and his time as a Füselier later.

I can't see his time with a pak division, but he was wounded in 44 by PAK fire hitting his SchPW. maybe this got mixed up somehow? What was your source for the PAK-division time?

def a promising candidate for evolving hero.

Thomas

During early Barbarossa, during the fight at Orla he was comanding his Cavalry unit from recon division 5, but he was also comanding a PAK and artillery unit. By advancing fast with his cavalry unit and securing with pak and artillery he was able to close the "Bialystok-Grodno"-pocket by sealing the escape route and fought back soviet counterattacks for days.

During his command of the Panzer-Lehr-Division this division also got 40 PAK/Anti-Tanks units.

I dont know it exactly, i would need the book i am refering to, but from my point of view i would say anti-tank/pak is a part of his wwII history.
