Battle lineup and unit initiative

One thing that always annoyed me about the original MoM was that it seemed like the unit turn priority was always backwards, forcing me to have to manually reverse the turn order in most battles. Basically in classic your strongest melee characters go first, with ranged going last, but generally I always want ranged to go first and melee last. Shoot stuff down, then melee what's left.
It seems that in this game unit positioning and turn order is random or whatever it is I can't figure it out. It seems to me that units should be lined up with the strongest melee attack values in the front. Something like the strongest melee attack value should be the front center unit, with units distributed to either side of that central unit base on melee strength. If two rows are formed, those with the weakest melee strengths should be in the back row. The secondary consideration should be armor, so to break ties on melee strength those with higher armor are toward the front and lower armor toward the back.
As for turn order it should be in order of ranged attack value from highest to lowest, with a secondary sort on melee attack value. So strongest ranged attack goes first, when ranged attack values are 0 then it goes in order from strongest melee attack to weakest.
Right now when I have mixed stack I often see stuff like Shamen/Catapults/Bowmen in the front with Cavalry, Berserkers, etc. in the back. Makes no sense.
