Also I got the impression the latest patch is for windows 11 which I don't even use so maybe don't need it or maybe they have had a lot of interations from 907 - I am play Allies series still have to buy the latest one ...

I don't think you will have to restart your campaign. The 9.24/9.25 patch (9.25 corrected something in 9.24) fixed a few things but its main purpose was to introduce a few new units that will enable you to purchase and play the latest DLC, Allies Victorious. While you need 9.25 to play AV, you don't need AV to update to 9.25, of course. You should do so anyway just to have the latest and greatest version. They did fix a number of things in the past year.
EDIT: Here is some more news, since you've been away for a year:
Unless you feel the need to keep your game at the version of a year ago, you don't have a choice of versions anyway, since they post only the latest download on
their site. For PC, you need the installer v7.1.4 and the v9.2.5 update. If you have a Mac, though, there is bad news; perhaps just after you departed, they announced that v8.6.9 would be it for Mac users. Corporate decision based on returns vs. resources. And, for a similar reason, they provide only v8.3.0 for people who can handle only the 32-bit version of the game. v9.2.5 is only for 64-bit machines.
Got all that? Hopefully none of it pertains to you.

Windows 7 support ended on January 14, 2020. Since that date, Microsoft no longer offers any new operating system updates or security patches for this version of Windows.

True. But I *think* Gunny should be alright with Windows 7 and the current version of OOB.

Microsoft’s free upgrade offer for Windows 10 ended more than five years ago. But nobody told the people who manage the Windows activation servers. Therefore, you can always upgrade from Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 and apply for a free digital license for the latest version of Windows 10.

I actually hate Windows 10 - one has to learn a new way of doing things in order to do things they already do etc. But I suppose I need to download it and deal with it .. my laptop has windows 10 but I hardly use it ... long story ...
yeah since windows 10 is now out of date or going there since windows 11 is out I need to jump on the wagon...
Having installed the patch I'm glad to see in January 2021 they fixed the "Queen Elizabeth Problem" I heard during the war she took pistol shooting lessons perhaps the patch addressed this and they tweaked her lethality ...

If your system is compatible, you can always switch from Windows 10 to Windows 11 for free.
