Who had the brilliant idea to give the oil pump this continent-wide audible ambient sound?
You already hear it during the loading screen...
Sadly, replacing this sound with a muted version of content\sound\combat\OilPump_01.wav or *\sound\ doesn't override anything.

After I replaced the unit's models setting from Oil_Pump to Fuel_Depot, the sound was gone at last.
Unfortunately, the map still had plenty Radar Stations with another grinding sound that is now audible instead...

It wouldn't be so annoying if such sound belong to Weather & Ambient Sounds option to rather turn off than all together with Sound Volume.
I'd still gladly see them being removed from the models completely, pretty please!

Horst, thanks for the chuckle and not meaning to belittle your concerns in the least. Those screeching oil pumps! Why not use some of the oil to oil them?

A certain custom scenario called Oahu Invasion gave me this nightmare. Another reason why I skipped it.
I often play with lowered sounds that I hardly hear them, but a large island full of them was too much. That destroyed my imagination of a Hawaiian holiday.

Yes, these days I prefer the "whoosh-whoosh" of wind turbines! Beautiful to watch and possibly enjoyable to listen to, even from only 250 meters away. Listen to this video (skip to the 6 minute mark or so if you don't want to wait); it's certainly an improvement over your screeching oil pumps! Not to mention contributing to the salvation of our planet.
