Stalingrad experiences

Having only discovered this game a few months ago this is the first time I progressed beyond Ilovlya and the first time I started the Storming Stalingrad ordeal.
When I first looked at the map I was a bit overwhelmed and did not really know how to proceed. Later on it dawned on me that a lot of Stalingrad could be bypassed on the way to the victory hexes which would also mean I would not have to spread my units too thin. So no frontal attack, more hit, penetrate and explode..

Core troops
8 infantry
• 2 grenadiers
• 2 3 move pioneers
• 4 gebirgsjaegers
11 armour
• 1 p3n
• 1 kerscher ivg
• 2 KV1B
• 1 se pz3n
• 1 se pz3l
• 3 se pz4g
• 2 flamm (more of a infantry unit than tank tbh)
11 artillery
• 4 10,5
• 2 17
• 2 stug3b
• 2 3 range nebel42
• 1 SU122
2 recon
4 fighters
2 stuka 87D
1 BF110g
2 level HE177a & DO217E

No antitank units
No anti air units

The idea was this:

The partisans were taken care of by the Italians aided by the luftwaffe and 1 flamm panzer.
The approach to Stalingrad was faitrly uneventful and progressed more or less according to plan.

Right before the fun begins:

After each conquest there were limited reprisals but not as overwhelming as I had expected. Maybe because of the concentration of force this scenario was relatively easy for me (on General level).
My starting prestige was 62867, but after repairs and a hefty overstrength bill it was down to 56700.
Prestige at the end was 58514.

Apart from the advantage of this strategy that unit damage was fairly limited the disadvantage was that prestige from secondary objectives was low because most of them were bypassed.

The end situation after a final massive push to the last victory hexes:

That is the most creative approach I have seen...strike only what is necessary to achieve the objectives...interesting approach

Thanks for sharing

Totally agree with, this is one of the most interesting strategies, I have seen too on this map :D

Besides, there is no need to get lots of damage on this scenario, since you are going to lose the city shortly in any case and withdraw eventually from Volga!!!

True, escape from Stalingrad was a breeze, Tatsinskaya less so.

Anyway 1942 has come and gone, the repair and upgrade bill paid and time to see to what extent my tactics have to change to survive 1943...

In my view in 43 and after, apart from the units above, you need to develop 3 antitank and 4 anti air units

indeed interesting route. in my 3 or 4 times i always went on more general offence, and that is always a lot of safe/load because it is really hard to get prepared for those KV/34 charges, even though i know they coming.
