V 3.1 and Pre-Islamic Bedouin

Noticed the Camelry line in the Pre-Islamic Bedouin list has been changed. Light Camelry has been added. Most other lists (have not had the opportunity to fully digest all the lists so their might be others) that have had Light Camelry added include the option for Camelry or Light Camelry. The Pre-Islamic Bedouin list does not.

This appears to be an error. Clarification would be appreciated.

The Pre-Islamic Bedouin made more use of camels than most of the other Arab nations and the list starts later than others at 300BC. It was felt that they should be permitted to field protected Camelry, whereas all the other camels and light camels in this book are unprotected. This meant that the Light Camelry had to be a separate entry so that they could remain unprotected.

perhaps i did not phrase my question properly. I under stand the protected Light spear/sword camelry. My question was whether the option for Light camelry bow should also include unprotected bow camelry.

OK - understand the question now.

We tried to include LCM into the existing lists without unbalancing the existing lists.
Of the 4 lists that now have the option of Cm/LCm 3 of them have only 1 BG of poor.
(Camels are not a good shooting platform).

The LPA are inherently a combat army, so it was decided their Camelry was likely to also be 'combat' troops as well. The Bow armed camelry didn't fit this criteria, so they were changed to LCm.

The only other list in book1 with 3 or more BGs is the "Early Nomad Allies list".
This list can have 3 BGs of either LCm or Cm with bow (although unprotected with no swords).
This 'could' make them a viable ally - although they also have to include a BG of weak MF.

Camelry are very rarely seen on the table at the moment, and these changes 'should' make them slightly more popular, without making them too effective.
