Hi guys

I'm looking for a 5 foot by 3 foot foldaway table and wonder if any of you have any ideas of who might do them at a good price in the UK.

Getting a 5 by 3 table that folds is I suspect going to be quite hard. There are a fair number of 5' by 2'6" folding tables but 5' by 3' seems an odd size. You might be better looking for two 3' by 2'6" tables. Either that or a table of some size smaller than 5' by 3' and a couple of folding boards to go on top.

I picked up a folding 5x3 foot Sullivans Home Hobby Table at a fabric store here in the U.S. Perhaps this or similar is available in the U.K. Mine works very well.

What do people think about wallpaper pasting tables?

Focus do a couple at £10 and £15 and there is a branch just on from work. 2 of those may suffice and would cost at most £30.

Do you think they would be strong enough for 15mm?

I have wargamed on tables like that. It works ok. The issue is more one of stability rather than strength, though I don't think you'd want to try sitting on one. If you bump into them it can send figures flying.

I've just checked the wallpaper pasting tables and they were a little flimsy as well as odd sized. 2 would be very large for 5 foot by 3 foot but just too short for 6 foot by 4 foot.

Looks interesting but it is 6 by 4. Could you not make something along these lines yourself?

I would go to B&Q, get a bit of MDF or ply or something. Ask them to cut it into two 3' by 2'6 bits and then look to hinge them together or drill holes and peg it like the e-bay one.

Ikea do a folding 'leg pack' http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/40071180 essentially a pair of legs that can be attached to a table of whatever size you want.

It seems that there are not many tables that fold and are 3' on their shorter dimension.

It's the 3' that's killing your options.
Innovo do really impressive folding tables at 5' x 2'4" or 6' x 2'6".
We've got a couple of these and they're sturdy when erected with a solid plastic top. Just about light enough to cart around single handed when folded.

Years ago my brother and I built an 8' x 5' table which folded up against the wall.
One end attached to the wall; there was a hinge about 1/3 of the way down, and wheels on the legs at the far end, so if you pushed down on the end the whole thing folded smoothly up against the wall. It was perfectly stable and robust when folded down.
My advice would be to build it yourself.

Folding tables are usually geared up for portability, carry handle etc.
..well 3' is more than most people's hand is from the ground when carrying...so a pretty limited market..hence none generally available.

Just an update guys.

Have just bought a habitat table on Ebay that is 3 foot square but extends to 6 foot by 3 foot. It is also in Leeds so hopefully will pick it up in time for a game this weekend.

There is a very novel and space saving way of having a wargames table that is easy to pack away after use.

You can buy 'rattan' blinds from hardware shops etc that are approximately 6' by 4'.
You then go to a haberdashery shop or a 'Pound World' type shop and buy some cheap green cloth and cheap sand coloured cloth or vinyl table top covers. You then unroll the blind on a flat surface, cut the green sheet to overlap the blind about 6 inches and then glue the green cloth/vinyl sheet to one side, and folded over and glued to the other side. You then cut the sand coloured cloth/vinyl sheet to exactly 6' x 4' and glue this to the side oppposite the green side. When dried you just roll up and stand in a corner
You then purchase unroll your rattan wargame table on the top of another table which can be smaller as and when needed.
