Missing Rondorf after Smolensk

Hi all,

New player since beginning of august. After 25+ years of PG I finally upgraded..
I did not go for PC2, that will have to wait a few more years :)

I started with the vanilla campaign but decided after Norway that it was too similar to PG and I wanted some new scenarios
Playing at colonel level through my first grand campaign and am now at the deployment phase of Vyazma.

I thought I was missing some heros so I inspected my units once more. It turns out I have Bar and Wirnsberger after all.
I don't have Lent because I skipped spoils of war (was a little bit afraid it would cost me..)
But I cannot find Rondorf. I should have had him in Smolensk where I had a DV.

Did I miss something because of which I did not get Rondorf? Should I maybe have deployed the flamm panzer?
I decided not to field it because it got a lot of damage and it is more of an infantry unit than an armour unit.

Thanks for a great game and all of the community content. Until now I have especially been learning from Braccada for core composition and deployment.
I think my core already is pretty big at this stage at 52 + 4 (including 3 freebee tanks).
So core-wise I think (and hope) I am already prepared for the later stages of the campaign .

Thanks!
Tom

hello, Heinz Rondorf and Helmut Wirnsberger both appear in Smolensk Grand Campaign 41.
There is an XL file called Panzer Corps Reference ver. VII with the time all heroes and free units appearance, try to search it.

You should try the mod Battlefield Europe by McGuba

If you had a friendly unit on the hex where Rondorf was to appear when he was due to appear then he won't appear. This happened to Lt. Joker in a video that has since been deleted from YouTube. He made Rondorf available in the next battle by using the editor.

Just found the excel yesterday, looks really impressive.
Not sure yet why I did not get Rondorf..
I did find out that I did not get a KV 1 because I occupied the city in the last turn and I should have occupied it in the last but one...
I will continue my GC with the current core though and add this info to my optimization tips for a second GC...

Vyazma was a DV with horrible losses, 5 units, so will have to replay that one though.

That could well be the case. I will find out this afternoon, thanks!

On the other hand, don't heros always appear in already fielded units and not in new units?
If this is the case then it cannot be a case of Hex already taken I think.

Found him, he was in the Panzer IIC I got. I either disbanded him or he was killed, Last time I saw him was in de Ostrov deployment save.
Now I definitely have to restart from Ostrov.. Although I will shell out for a Pz IV for him.

I like giving him a Panzer II Flamm and then keeping him in that until I upgrade him to Tiger I (since he has a +1 MOV rating) usually around the start of GC43. He will get loads of kills in Panzer II Flamm (with his additional +1 ATT and +2 INIT) against Soviet infantry so you will reach the second hero quite quickly but the Panzer II Flamm of course requires some baby sitting because of its poor defensive stats.

By the time I read this he was already in his PzIV..
Then again I had a Flamm in reserve and used it again in Demyansk.
Which by the way was way easier than I expected, never really in trouble there. On Colonel level that is.
Now for the shock of 42..

Glad to see my spreadsheet is still useful. Haven't played all that much lately, for numerous reasons, but did notice that when I recently played the Allied Corps V Rockets scenario, if you capture Leiden (11,24) you will get a train with a V2 on it in the vicinity. If you disembark it in a city (like Leiden) it will show up as a vertical rocket but if you select it and use the switch button (hotkey W) it will flip horizontal and then you can use it to attack whatever target you wish (within range). For those of you that use the spreadsheet, you might want to add this as I won't be updating it just for that.

PS, sorry for the off-topic response above. Just thought the most recent posts would get the most notice in order to add to the Capturable Units/Scenario Special, Etc. column of my spreadsheet. Also, thanks to Pete and faos333 for keeping the memory of my spreadsheet alive for new PC gamers to find. I know it has very much helped me. If anyone has ever found anything else that is missing, I'd be glad to update it and repost it.

Thank you for your great work, could you re post it so it is easier for new players to find it?

One correction, when you unload the V-2 it will be horizontal and then switch to vertical with the W-key and then be launchable. Just the opposite of what I mentioned above. Old age brain cramp.
