No Flank Attack Advantage?

In one of my tournament games, I've got a strange situation where my Egyptian spearmen start the turn on the left flank of a unit of Mercenary Hoplites,
The latter are fighting a unit of Egyptian archers, therefore when I mouse hovered I was expecting to see a mention of charging the Hoplites in the flank and reducing their cohesion. Better predictions too as a result.
However, as the image shows, there's no mention of it being a charge in the flank, and the odds of success are zero.
I've put white lines around both units' outline to show the ones in question.
In the end, as I needed to end the turn, I've charged a unit of Egyptian archers who are just out of sight to the right of the image.
However, this seems very bizarre. Are there special rules for Hoplites that I've not seen before, or is this a bug?
Thanks
Bill
