Allies in Sandbox Campaigns?

Hey everyone, I noticed this line in the DLC descriptions for the game:

"Sandbox campaign expanded to include all the new army lists, allowing you to lead any nation (and their historical allies) against any other nation (and their allies) – giving over eighty thousand permutations."

This seems to insinuate you can have allies in the sandbox campaign, but I am unable to do this. Is it locked behind one of the DLCs or is it just not a feature? Thanks!

You are expecting that allies in campaigns will work just like allies in Custom Battles, ie: at the start of any battle you can select an ally, and then select whatever units you want from that ally.

Allies in campaigns work differently. Depending upon what random campaign choice comes up, you sometimes get the option of getting an allied force (instead of replacing losses in your core army). At other times, you might have to fight an enemy ally, or send allies to fight an enemy invasion. However, in most random campaign battles you just play with your own core army.

Ahhh okay, that makes sense! That's kind of cool actually. I assume it pulls from the same allies list as you would get in custom battles and from the same time period? And do Time Warp campaigns sometimes have allies as well?

Yes to both.
