I want to alter "Raw Billmen" into "Below Average Billmen". I think all I have to do is to create two new lines in the Squads File (one for Yorkists, one for Lancastrians) and increase the experience number from 50 to 75. Before I would have numbered these new lines 900 and 901, but I cannot alter the numbers so have used 261 and 262 which are the next free numbers on the empty lines.

I have then put this in the TEXT1 folder . . .

IDS_UNITNAME261, "Yorkist levies",
IDS_UNITINFO261, "Below average billmen",
IDS_UNITNAME262, "Lancastrian levies",
IDS_UNITINFO262, "Below average billmen",

But then when I go to the Editor the new unit types are only visible in the "Show All" list, not the undrilled foot list. This is because the Yorkist levies are shown as an Arab Foot unit, while the Lancastrian levies are shown as an Arab Cavalry unit. You can read what I have put in the TEXT1 folder on each unit so something odd is happening.

Should I still be able to alter the Squads File row numbers, or am I doing something else wrong? Thanks.

You should not alter the row numbers at all.

The numbers you need to specify are those in the ID column, not the left-hand column.

We are currently up to ID 584 and more may be added. 261 and 262 are already in use.

You can certainly use ID 900 and 901 in your modded file.

You need to change the Elan value to 75, as well. Otherwise their quality will be 75 + 50 = 125/2 = 67.5

Thanks Paul. I was having real difficulties with the Squads Files the other day, but I found my old notes from when I first started doing scenarios for FOG2 and so now I can do the procedure OK.

Re Towton, another candidate for the leadership of the Duke of Norfolk's contingent is Sir John Howard, who actually became the Duke of Norfolk right at the end of 1461.
