Looks great! Where do you install this, if I might ask?
Is it only battles, or are campaigns also included?

As a fan of A Song of Ice and Fire, very happy to see this mod!
Will there be epic battles in the future?

Oh yea I plan to do the Battle of Redgrass Field, the many battles of Robert's Rebellion, and the battles fought in the War of the Five Kings. I'm also working on adding Essos factions, but those will most likely just be for Custom Battle mode.

Great work, time for stream of consciousness feedback/unit ideas on army lists:

FREE FOLK

Giants: Could use oversized berserker models and give them say, HW and Impact Foot?

Frozen Shore Chariots: Say... Above Avg Light Chariots, Light Spear

Thenns: Above Average, Some Armor, Offensive Spearmen. Could use armored hoplites skin, or something like that

NIGHT'S WATCH
Didn't they field a greater number of archers on ranging? The proportion seems to go off only a third of the watch being Rangers, but those 2/3 would only see combat in desperate defensive circumstances. I think more archers might be called for, but they could be a bit less deadly than the impact/bow/swords. Maybe just Bow/Swordsmen.

STARK
Free Riders could perhaps be Light Spear/Swords to allow a bit of flex and to reflect their erm selective bravery?

Sellsword Polearmsmen are 720 men but only have 8 models. Also not sure if Below Avg makes the 36pt costing correct with that number of men.

Pikemen have 720 men, so they are basically oversized Spearmen, as they will get no Deep Pike, but unlike Spearmen they do not reduce enemy infantry Swordsmen POAs. Is this intended?

Stark Bannermen are 72pts and 400 men... I assume the oversized cavalry unit is an error? Note that they display as 240 in the list, but put them into the field and its 400. Does not appear to be a scaling issue.

To be continued...

HOUSE MARTELL

Maybe a number of light cavalry javelinmen? TO SPEARS and all that.

FREE CITY OF QOHOR

The Qohorik City Guard unit looks tiny in the unit preview screen

The lists look solid and well researched, and the graphics work is amazing. That said, a minor quibble that might be worth addressing in the long term, though it would be a lot of work.

Given the mentions of plate armor etc., the general tech level for a lot of Westeros seems to be more 1400s than 12 or 1300s. With that in mind, more use of Storm of Arrows and Rise of the Swiss assets could make sense for general appearance - plate armored men at arms, sallets, late crossbowmen, etc. That said it might not be worth considering any texture/model changes until the remaining DLCs for Medieval and Ancients come out, which should give you new things to work with.

Eventually, when it's in a more or less final state, I encourage you to contact RBS to make it an official download - tho given copyright concerns maybe they won't, not sure about that angle, but it's worth asking so they can check.

Edit: No Dothraki or Daenerys lists? The former would be pretty easy, basically Huns. The latter would be a bit more work.

I very much doubt if we could make a Games of Thrones mod an official mod - for copyright/intellectual property reasons.

Fair enough, I thought that might be the case.
SmickeyMcgee wrote: Fri Jul 08, 2022 3:34 pm
One more note. RE units, a lot of the lights get 50% Swords, an expensive trait that is mostly wasted on lights. Would it not make sense to drop it on all but a few specialists?

I like the ideas for free folk chariots and thenns. I had the same giants idea but i can't figure out the scaling it's not as simple as modifying squads.csv unitscaling. I think id have to do something with the s4f model and i dont know how to edit the 3d stuff. As for night's watch that list didnt get much love. Ive been thinking of adding night watch archers and crossbowmen. Also adding a couple of units of Northern Clansmen would fit in since lore wise they were said to be the watch's closest allies. Also add stark to the ally list.
Good eye on the troop numbers those are indeed bugs and i just went into squads and fixed the numbers.
The unit cost is something ive had alot of trouble determining. Point balancing the lists is gonna be a whole process.
The tiny preview for qohorik is just a messed up value in squads.csv, just fixed it.
The reason for the 13th century look is theres more variation and models to work with. The knight models used have shields and multiple helmet variants. Whereas the new knight model from storm of arrows only has 1 helmet variant and no shield. However who knows what new models might be added in future DLC. If some more 14-15th century flavored models get added i'd totally think about redoing some stuff.
The reason no Dothraki is i didn't see how i could retexture any of the horse archer models to look like them. I could just do a placeholder though using the default hun models and a custom dothraki faction banner.
As for Daenerys there's no way to do dragons. The white walkers and undead however might be possible with retexturing.
The 50% swords is just to help them lose less quickly in melee, and to make them actually able to hold rough terrain.

The Dothraki as Huns is fine I think, and really Martin's portrayal of the Huns as berserk chargers is frankly weird for a steppe people, who historically always had low populations and relied on horse archery (along with his peasant levies tropes).

As for Daenerys, why not have her army sans dragons? Unsullied, Dothraki, freed slaves.

RE lights, even with 50% Swords they can't hold terrain against non-lights; it's generally a straight waste of points, it only helps them in fighting other lights.

If Richard is cool with it I could provide you with a recent Medieval point values chart for unit costing. Otherwise, I could just go through the lists and offer my suggestions based on what things cost in vanilla

That will be fine. Note, however, that Longbows will be going down to 2.5 for all (per 100 UnitSize), instead of 3 for non-raw and 2.5 for raw.

No, you don't need to change the s4f model. You can change a models size in game simply by changing it's UnitScaling number in the Squads.csv file.

Richard is the expert on this, but I think it goes something like this:

Equal to, or less than 999 = this reduces the models natural height. ie: 900 = 0.9 of models natural height

0 = No scaling, the model uses it's natural height in game.

Greater than 1000 (?)= this increases the models natural height. ie: 2500 = 2.5 times the models natural height.

It's something like that, I am away at the moment, so can't check it in game.

cheers

Paul
