I love the work you guys have down with the planetary supremacy; and I understand why you chose not to provide a more narrative focused campaign. However, I think there is a way to take your existing assets and pare them down and give people the best of both worlds. You don't cutscenes or voice actors or even much of a script; you just need context and just the right amount of story and the players imagination will fill in the rest. So without further ado, I present: Invasion. Take your existing PS map; streamline it so that all the tiles fit a certain theme (desert world, jungle world, etc) add a few urban environments; put in rivers or mountains or canyons that make the map have choke points or least that you cant just go in a straight line everywhere. Only one main opponent. The story is you are defending a world from invasion by somebody else (both options you select). You have a main army (maybe secondary armies or garrisons) it is represented on the map by an HQ unit; it moves one square per turn (maybe two or more squares on a road or some such), Your army can move or attack or even defend its square (with some kind of defense bonus, to encourage defense of choke points). Every square has some value that if it is on your side adds to points for you to replenish your armies next turn. The game begins when some random tile(s) is conquered by invaders from beyond; again represented by HQ units. and then everyone moves their armies around the board. Throw in some random missions; like defend this base/city/space port/refuges/bio mass/tomb for certain number of turns with a garrison and if you win you get some bonus. And this is where what I was saying about a little narrative going a long way; yes it would be great if you guys could model civilians running around or a convoy of vehicles trying to get to a point or survive a number of turns. Or, you could show me a map like Bridges and make the mode conquest and tell me I need to hold this point so a bunch or refugees don't get attacked and it would all be flavor text. Throw in some random events; reinforcing armies, a chaos portal opens up some where and demons pour out, Orks show up, one of your garrisons betrays you, the possibilities are endless. And now you have a choose your own adventure narrative on top of procedural system and everyone is happy. Thanks for your time.
