A possible bug and a question about ice terrain type

Hi all,

I've noticed that when I create a custom battle and I left the map type on "pot luck", it never chooses the frozen map types. I don't know if it is a bug, but it would be great if frozen maps types were part of the pot luck possibilities.

Furthermore I've a question about the ice terrain type: is it like a normal open terrain or it has some effects on troops?

Thanks,
MrCrow

It isn't a bug, it is intentional that Frozen terrain is not included in the Pot Luck terrain. Battles on Frozen terrain were relatively rare. If you want to play on Frozen terrain you have to select it manually.

It is like normal open terrain.

Thank you for your reply. This make sense, battles on frozen/snowy terrain were rare, but it would have been great if the map type choosing mechanism managed this (for example lowering the chances that the "pot luck" selects a frozen map type but not totally excluding them). Anyway, it doesn't matter, it's fine to select it by hand.

Can I ask you why? I'm not an expert but I believe that fighting on ice should be difficult for heavy troops. Am I wrong?

Thank you,
MrCrow

It depends on the ice. We principally wanted it to work as normal open terrain in the Lake Peipus Epic Battle, except where the ice is designated as Rough Going.

The story about the ice breaking and the Teutonic Knights drowning is not mentioned in contemporary chronicles, and apparently first appeared in the 1938 film Alexander Nevsky by Sergei Eisenstein.

Perfectly understandable. Thank you for the clarification.
