Meanwhile I will ask Petirouge if he can fix this, if it is the same problem that other people were having, which required a fix to their accounts.

I am also getting the 'authentication failed' message in me3dieval but not in Ancients. There is also an unusual delay when loging on whilst it connects to the server of several seconds.

Exactly the same for me. I can lo onto Ancients but not medieval and the same experience. I've emailed support but no joy yet. It's been like this for days.

I don't use Steam if that helps and I have the new DLC and patch.

It won't be good if I am defaulted after playing one move because my opponent didn't post their first move for five days an I am then unable to reply with my move due to what looks like a server fault. How long should I need to wait for a reply? I emailed support yesterday and didn't get any form of acknowledgment.

BTW, I don't use Steam either for this game.

I have solved my problem! Looking at the number of * displayed for the password I realised that Medieval was storing an old Slitherine password. I entered the current password and all worked well.

The curious thing is that Ancients still defaults to the old password and connects to multiplayer OK, And Medieval has always previously connected OK until recent days despite the password being changed some time ago.

I think they have been tidying up the Medieval PBEM code, which may be why this happened now and not before. Ancients uses an older legacy system.

I can't get in at all today - tried about 20 times.

For the past few weeks it has taken a few extra clicks to gain access but until now have always been able to get in.


I got in trying again half an hour later.

I don't think that was it because Ancients was fine - unless they are on a different server.
Medieval continues to be problematic, first attempt on each screen nearly always fails.

I think the point is that the server runs older code for Ancients. I now have no problem with Medieval having realised unneeded to update the password, but the Medieval game still waits far longer for a response than Ancients does. Regularly 20 seconds instead of 2 to bring up the login screen.

Ancients and Medieval are on different servers. Ancients uses legacy PBEM code, and they are currently making changes to the Medieval PBEM code, which may result in some hiccups.

Has the code for Ancients just been updated?

FoG2 unlike FoG2 Medieval won't allow me to change the password on the authentication screen from what it was when I originally registered for multiplayer. So I am now locked out of the Ancients Tournament. I realise this isn't the right board for Ancients but this seemed the best place to ask this particular question before emailing support.

For some reason the post I sent a few minutes after my original post hasn't appeared. I found a way to update the password in ancients and could log in. Because Jo insertion cursor appeared when I clicked in the box I wasn't expecting keyboard actions tomedit anything.

So I can now log into multiplayer and all is good.

I think the code must have been updated because the very slow server response in medieval is now repeated in ancients. For example, yesterday ancients would open a multiplayer game in 4 seconds after I clicked on it in My Games, today it takes 20 seconds, just as Medieval games do now. There is also the same several second delay when launching multiplayer whilst it searches for the server which ancients hasn't done until today and medieval has done since last week.
