It's true that the next DLC is a long time coming...
However, there is still a lot to do, in terms of content.
There was a discussion here:
viewtopic.php?t=88657
And, together with historical scenarios, it may very well be possible to add some what-if scenarios here and there too…
Among the ideas put forward, here are those that I think would still be very interesting:
-
Spanish campaign 1936-39 (then option to export German core force to “Blitzkrieg” DLC – which means that the player has to side with the Nationalists of Franco there, supported by both the Germans and the Italians).
We’ve an excellent mod (although unfortunately not entirely finished yet) called The Spanish Prelude (which can be found there https://www.slitherine.com/forum/viewto ... 74&t=88783 ), in which the player sides with the Republicans against the Nationalists of Franco. This mod may be used as an useful help to develop another official DLC related to the same period.
Or, alternatively, perhaps “only” as an extensive tutorial before German GC, why not? (but it would be a pity), but at least with a few German unit could have some experience to next Blitzkrieg DLC. But then, as an extensive tutorial, it may appear before the Soviet GC too - we'll see about this later.
-
Italian campaign 1936-41, as a mix between war in Etyopia and after against France and Greece in 1940 and at least in Africa until Afrika Korps arrive march 1941, (then option to export core force to “Sandstorm” DLC)
- More variations related to the Japanese, like a Japanese marinees
Giretsu Kuteitai campaign 1941-44 (similar like the US marines campaign)
-
France campaign DLC,
hell yeah, something indeed perhaps like this:

French Campaign :
Act I : Prelude : Early 1939 / 1940 battles (Norway, Arras, Dunkirk)
Act II : Death or Dishonor : Choose between Vichy (Dakar, Syria, Madagascar, Torch) or Free French (Kufra, also Syria but on the other side

, Bir-Hakeim, Tunisia). At the end of it, as historically, the Free French and the Vichy French army merge.
Act III : Redemption, with the Italian campaign : Corsica[Operation Vesuvius], then Monte Cassino//Garigliano. After this comes the Liberation of France campaign (Operation Dragoon, Liberation of Paris, March on Strassburg)
Finale : Race the Americans to Berchtesgaden. German resistance is only token but the player must move faster than the Americans !
Total : 13 levels to be played, 17 total. If too much, Madagascar and Free French Syria can probably be removed (so 12/15). Corsica may also be removed.
Notes :
- Plenty of new units, not only in 1939/1940 but all the sorts of infantry the Free French had to rely on (Goumiers, Tirailleurs Sénégalais, Infanterie Pacifique, French Foreign Legion). Also, Camel Cavalry !
- In the tech tree, the French have to choose whether they are going to use US equipment or UK equipment.
- Kufra was a small battle historically, almost a skirmish, but it was the first battle of the Free French and is famous in France for the Oath of Kufra, where General Leclerc asked his troops to
"Swear not to lay down arms until our colors, our beautiful colors, float on the Strasbourg Cathedral"
-
Finland from Soviet side as prelude to Soviet Grand campaign. OR a practice campaign - the Big Excercise held in Dec 1940 by STAVKA simulating fight between the USSR and Germany (of course fictional and biased - like in reality)
Or, rather, a mix, as it has been suggested here:

I expect the soviet campaign:
-part 1: before the storm. Training camp at spanish civil war, then crush japanese at khalkhyn gol, attack poland from behind. Of course winter war is the last

But I also really hope that the developers aren´t finished with the pacific theater. Having core air, sea and land is really what makes this game awesome IMO.
Maybe the original US and JAP, and even the BRIT (Burma Road) campaigns could be expanded with more missions. Those were really awesome and I wouldn´t mind playing them again and again if there were more (new missions) in between the existing. The entire pacific war being over in 12 missions seems a bit lackluster and a waste.

And what about a
Kingdom of Thailand DLC?

That’s a brand new idea, isn’t it?
As DLC, a new campaign, with exoticism, challenge, centered on the only country in the region not to have been colonized by an European power... a people, however, who will be put to the test... I named the "Kingdom of Taihland"! (1 DLC)
And it will combine all components with core units: land, air & naval!
Framework? Roughly from 1940 to 1942.
1st part (essentially historical): the
Thai Blitzkrieg against the French Indochina troops to recover territories snatched away only a few decades ago! Land, air, naval means... This can easily lead to at least 3 different scenarios, up to the "mediating" intervention of Japanese troops (which in itself could offer some unprecedented variants).
2nd part, tactical choice for the player (partly historical, partly "what if"):
the Kingdom is isolated on the map, between the British on one side and the Japanese on the other... On which side will the player ally himself? Direct consequence: Receiving some immersive and relevant core units. Campaign branching, at least 2 or 3 senarios for each branch. Easy to implement. One could also imagine the creation and intervention of a
Thai Expeditionary Force in support of the Allies chosen by the player, which would allow "at will" to add a few additional scenarios in "what if" mode (or historical mode as Thailand did actually really help the Japanese in their Malayan campaign ).
3rd part (essentially historical, but perhaps happening a little later than historically): the
Japanese invasion of Thailand, or strong attempt of invasion at least... in punitive operation mode in case of alliance with the British or in treason mode in case of alliance with the Japanese (the latter being wary of a reversal always possible and, therefore...)... To end the campaign, the DLC on a positive note, it should still be possible for the player to victoriously resist the Japanese invasion attempts! (After all, if the resistance is great enough, they might prefer to stall, to keep the status quo...)

Italian late campaign DLC too…
GUNDOBALDO08 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 01, 2018 12:50 pm
I’d like also an Italian late campaign that start with operation Husky, defence of sicily, and after that player can choice between stay with axis and defend italian peninsula by Allied invasion from Salerno to Gothic line (RSI) or sign alliance with Allied and help them till from Salerno to Gothic line and liberation of north of Italy. If choice RSI player can use italian late and also german equipement, if choice Allied can use their equipement...
(With Italian core units that could be imported from “Sandstorm” DCL, of course.)
At some points, too Italian naval battles in the Mediterranean Sea with the carrier Aquila…

An "
Australian campaign DLC" would offer tons of opportunities as well, in addition to a somewhat
unusual approach.
"Almost a million Australians, both men and women, served in the Second World War. They fought in campaigns against Germany and Italy in Europe, the Mediterranean and North Africa, as well as against Japan in south-east Asia and other parts of the Pacific." (
https://www.awm.gov.au/articles/second- ... %20Pacific. )

And more, much, much more.
There are a lot of ideas left to be explored! A lot!
