a Glorious day for a PzIII along the Volga

Playing Along the Volga for the first time.
I wanted to see what was on "the other side of the hill" so I put a bridge engineer on the river and sent a scout car over.
Hmm. An undefended airport during a snow turn.
Sent over a Pz III over the river and captured the airport.
And because it was snowing, that is how a Pz III became an ace.

Most annoying feature in this game imho. You are doing a great job on the battlefield but somehow an unit slips through your lines, conquering your airfield and you lose all your airforce because of some rain.

You have to remember that most airfields back then were dirt. You couldn't take off or land in the rain because of the mud. So even if you knew the enemy was coming, there really wasn't much you could do about it.

Well, you cant stay in the air all the time when your airfield is not in shape. We dont talk about hours, we rather talk about days or even weeks.
Its more likeley that your airplanes are at the ground and cant start when the weather conditions are bad. So maybe your airplane units should be grounded during bad weather, so that the enemy can attack them with ground units. Like in early barbarossa, when most of the russian planes are ground units.
If your airport is gone, you have to conquer it back to be able to use your planes again.
But dont get me wrong, that is not a feature that needs to be changed. Just some thoughts... :)

It was an undefended airfield very close to the front lines. That's asking for trouble.
Though I admit that there have been times in this game, as well as PC1, and probably even the original panzer general for that matter, that I wished there was a low cost garrison troop available.
Something that would not be useful for offensive actions, but could prevent "sneakery"

Bridge Engineers. 1 Slot, you can OS them a little and keep the 1 Slot Cost. And thanks to the training scenarios you can level them up or with the "learns from mistakes" hero. I use to have some high exp "boat pirates" (heheh greetings to Edmon ;) ) for every playthrough. And with some medium heros you can create cheap defensive beasts out of them.

Good idea!

I often use reconnaissance units to capture airfields.
This kind of special case (capturing an undefended airfield when it snows or rains) rarely happens. It is a particularly profitable commando action. Well done :)
