Just a clarrification - Demise of Generals

Ok, I'm pretty sure I've got this right, but lets go through it just in case:
I have a General in the front line in melee of both sides. The enemy win the combat and do > 2 casualties, I lose the combat, but also do > 2 casualties. Thus there is a risk to both generals.
My general can die if the enemy roll an 11 or a 12.
His general can die if I roll a 12.
After all is said and done, I roll my cohesion test and fail miserably breaking.
I roll a VMD which is < the enemy VMD and so get caught in the rear and take a further casualty. He has a chance of killing my general on a 10, 11, or 12.
Is that right?

Right, so everyone's interpretation of a General dying in rout is only as a result of being caught in the rout, not in the process of breaking, as that occurs after the death roll?

Yes. In last game me and my opponent had 3 generals in first line of BGs whom broke (for autobreak rule). Nobody died due to death rolls, so when we removed BG due to autobreak my Generals survived because the had at least a BG within their move, his General died because he had not (and in all cases opponent BG were still in contact after pursuit). If BG hadn't be in autobreak, after rout move Generals could leave BG in rout.

Yes correct
you get
12 to kill if he is winning = 1 in 36
11 to kill if he is losing = 1 in 12
10 to kill if you catch him in a rout = 1 in 6
Usually only 1 go at the above as he is free to move away, although I have seen someone forget, have to rout again, get caught and killed the second time. Harsh indeed.

OK, but when I wrote I got the feeling we made an error. In fact, we leave General with BG after first rout move, so when we removed autobreak BG with still enemy in contact we valued at this point if Generals had a friendly BG to join. I suppose right sequence would be:
Deat roll for General after melee (when BG autobreak, but not due to autobreak of course) -> he survives
rout move in combat phase, enemy in contact so a new death roll for General -> he survives
JAP: General can now freely move and doesn't require a friendly BG within his normal move to survive.

That sounds correct to me.
You only need a BG within movement distance if the commander is shot at or contacted by an enemy move when he is on his own.
