Beginner questions, german discord or anything?

Hello, i just revisited the game and only played a little on release, but struggled with getting familiar with it.
I have buyed both DLC because i want to like it and in general i like it, but its maybe harder to get into it than i thought it is.
May i ask some questions.

How long do your games last for? I sometimes get really exhausted playing a single match as there is so much to consider and to do and addiotanlly when the enemy turns you cant follow everything that fast or would be able to remember everything even.
I know there is the battlelog, but i see myself giving up mid battle as it really looks bad for me and i already spent 1-2 hours playing.
So how much time do you plan for a whole battle against AI?
I maybe need to adjust my expectations and planning for a playsession or split it into two sessions for one battle, like march up and get into kontakt, but then have tea time and continue the battle later in a sencond session?
How do you manage that?
Are your sessions shorter, because you know better what and how or are you also planning for more hours and eventually split the battle into 2 or even more sessions?

What about MP, i dont think i'm ready for MP, but it seems that a battle could take a lot of hours?!?

Next thing is there maybe a german forum or anything you can ask players for help or find opponents for playing and learning the game?
i can read and understand english, but i'm not that good and it's exhausting extra to concentrate for a foreign language additionally

Not sure. I guess my SP battles (in medium size) often take less than an hour. Depends whether the battle is straightforward or I need to think it over.

If you find it too long, you can indeed split SP battles into several sessions (Likewise with MP).
To make them shorter, you can also reduce the number of units on the battlefield in both armies (and then re-increase them little by little, once you'll play faster). In Custom battle options :
- Force Size : Very Small or Small
- or Advanced Options : Choose Force points, for both Sides A and B

MP battles can be played in one session during the day or in several sessions over several days or weeks, a few turns per day or whatever, depending on the opponents' availability (different time zones, jobs, holidays...).

I don't know of German-speaking forums/sites/discord. Sorry. But there's a English-speaking discord (I can't lay my hands on the link right now) where you could ask whether or not there are German-speaking ones.

My advice : Take the time to learn. Soon, you'll play the game faster and faster, deciding and moving your units. Turn-based games often take longer than real-time ones (such as Total War) as sometimes you'll like to take your time pondering your tactic/options.

Have fun.

You can also reduce the Game Speed and Unit Speed Turbo in Settings if the game is flowing too fast for you to follow.

On the Field of Glory 2 Discord server there is a German language channel. Scroll down on the left side to find it (together with Spanish and Italian channels).

thank you both for tips and your opinion, so i'm not doing wrong in general if it takes some time and just have to become more familiar with everything.
The Tips about army size and time i'll check, until i just played the historical battles and they have for sure accurate numbers.
Well i see these battles have also last long in reality and were not a thing of a few hours only.

i think the rules cover a lot of things not many games do and make it deeply tactical.

Historical/Epic/user-made battles are really nice but units in such battles are generally numerous and sometimes special rules are added to make them more historical.
On the other hand, "Jetzt kämpfen!", "Schnelle Schlacht" und "Angepasste Schlacht" with "(sehr) klein Truppenstärke" make troops easier to handle and battles quite faster.

Here is an example of the player's army :

with these settings :

Isn't it easier to learn the ropes ?

I have often played small games if I just want to checkout a matchup or in a hurry. The games are much quicker but with less troops, the game is less forgiving of mistakes. Still fun though and probably the best size battle to learn the game.

Yes, I would definitely not recommend playing the Epic battles first if you are trying to learn the game.

They usually have a large number of units, and due to how the difficulty levels are created, the lower levels usually have even more units. Plus, as Athos said, the Epic battles often have special rules, or adjustments to units, that will not help you learn the basics of the game.

If you want to learn the game, play the tutorials, then some Quick battles or Custom battles. You can save the Epic battles for later.

I invite you to take a look at the discord channel of "Der Hobbygeneral". We're a small, nice community with players of varying level of expertise and have a FoG subchannel. In the past we've even organized a small private, relaxed tournament.
