Bow *

Hi , i'm using the Fog rules to play Swords and Sorcery battles and have a few questions about historical trooptypes.
(I dont own any of the army books.)

Mainly those who use Bow*

First, How do you say Bow*..."Bow wee star"/ "Bow Inferior" / "Bow part-time"/ "Bow TA" ?

Second, Can HF anywhere in ancient history( ie the army books) be Bow* armed ?

Third , Can Mobs be Bow*, or even Bow armed ?

I dont want to use FoG weapon-armed trooptypes which have not been playtested.

(Well actually i do, but its better to restrict it wherever possible. )

"Bow star" usually.

No.

I think so - in theory anyway.

Yes but there's not much point: MF, Poor, undrilled, Unprotected, Bw(*),- would function exactly the same. Unless you just liked calling them a mob, 'cos they suited it.

IMO Mobs are a hangover from previous rule sets.

I wanted the Samurai mixed BGs to be classed as mob but everyone else thought that might upset too many Samurai players. In the end they are medium foot on cavalry depth bases or well..... mob by any other name.
Sigh. Before all the samurai players commit suicide at the thought of rebasing this is optional - but recommended for aesthetic purposes.
Oh and they are IIRC Bow* Heavy weapon.
Well maybe, depending when you are talking about ...

Just for a bit more clarrification.

All (FoG) foot shooters (other than skirmishers) are Medium Infantry. It's a mechanism of the game I guess. You always know if they are shooting at you that they are medium infantry.

Then again, if you're doing it for fantasy - do what you like, but keep it secret from Hammy, or he'll send the thought police out after you

Bow * = Small Bow
Bow ! = Big Bow

In the same way

Asterix is a small guy
Obelix is a big guy

neo-assur cav can be lightspear/swords/bow* all around or it can be front rank lightspear/swords and rear rank bow/swords.

besides the latter being slightly cheaper, what are the points to note about each setup?

Richard said something to me about destroying Carthage the last time I posted about this, but:

If facing other cav/mounted when 1 deep they will normally be firing 2 bases (1 dice) at a target BG with a frontage of 2 and a BG size of 4 bases, so will be unable to cause a CMT.
If half bow when 1 deep they can concentrate the shooters at one end of the line against a single target.
When 2 deep both will get 2 dice shooting. However if the Bw* lose a base they will be down to 1 dice, whereas the half bow BG will most likely lose a front rank base so still shoot with 2 dice.

First, How do you say Bow*..."Bow wee star"/ "Bow Inferior" / "Bow part-time"/ "Bow TA" ?
"The list doesn't allow me to take these troop with proper bows, but they are compulsary so here they are, for what it's worth"

I can't help mucking about with rules, when i buy a set i always feel as if i own them.

One more question , are there any troops in the books which are Impact Foot and Heavy Weapon ?

Fortunately no. This would make the Hvy Wpn a bit too good against mounted
Hvy wpn gets an impact POA v's foot but not mounted

Oops, been doing this wrong...and still losing, so it can't have been that much of an unfair advantage. :)

I've been saying "Secondary bow". "Bow star" is ugly and gamey, but has the advantage of brevity.

Best wishes,
Matthew

Perhaps ;)

Bow* tends to be used when troops already have impact and melee capabilities as well.
