I recently received my copy of commander - europe at war gold [slitherine version], I was hoping this game would give me a challenge, but this is not what i had in mind, i cannot get the game to start, i have windows xp sp3 and i have tried everything i have read on this forum and at matrix. The only thing i cannot try is to change the "settings txt" in "my documents" because i cannot find it. I dont want to mess around with this proplem anymore as i have reinstalled the game 3 times already and i am not sure if there is a limit to how many times i can do this. I have had proplems with other games before but i have usually fixed them by now, so this is starting to become a worry, please help.

What exactly happens when you try and start the game? You shouldn't need to reinstall the game over and over, firstly.
The settings file should be in My Documents\CEAW. If that folder doesn't exist then that might tell us something.
Are you running any virus checkers that might be preventing the app from starting?
Cheers

When i try to start the game nothing appears to happen , i get no error messages, the game just doesnt respond. I have looked in "my documents" for the ceaw folder but there is nothing, I use Kasperky internet security but i am not sure what to look for, so it could be the proplem.

Try looking in:
C:\Program Files\Slitherine
for it, that's where it is for me.

What is your screen resolution ? Try changing it to 1024x768 and then restart the game. If you dont have a folder in My Documents then my guess is that the game hasnt installed properly. Disable your Antivirus and try a fresh install.

I have already tried changing screen resolution to no avail, the reason why there is no ceaw folder in my documents is because it wont appear until the game has been running, which i am unable to do. I have installed the game on a older computer, which runs with windows xp sp2, and the game works but it only has 512mb ram, has anybody played the game with this amount of memory and if so have you had any problems. I am sure the problem is java related, i dont understand enought about java to mess around with it too much, but when i try to start the game now, a small black box appears on screen for about a second then disappears, which is more than i was getting before, thanks for trying to help me, i wont give up just yet.

Same problem for me!
I bought the boxed version MH CEAW (Germany).
It ran without problems on my laptop until I allowed windows to download a lot of updates (Apr 2009). After that trying to start the game, i get no respond, except the black box that is sometimes to be seen for less than a second (as described above). Maybe this narrows the search for possible problems...
The hotfix does not install, anyhow it should not be necessary in the boxed version?!
Reinstalling i tried and several other things without success.

Do you with problems have a lot of RAM and also displays that support 1024x768?

Still having no luck, but i found this error txt document, this is only part of the document, but these same lines are repeated for every time i have tried to start the game, hope this helps.

This suggest you have some other software on your machine, some security software that prevents Java to run.

I have decided to give up with this game, and from what i have been reading elsewhere i am not the only. I will keep checking the forums here and at matrix in the hope that somebody will find a fix, i am so glad i did not purchase this game from matrix as it would have cost me close to £50.00

Johan - we had issues caused by a Microsoft update before, hence the hotfix. Given that drmistral had it running and then it stopped after a Microsoft update, could this be a similar problem? What was the key problem with the earlier update that required the hotfix?

Johan, do we save any files outside of the MyDocuments folder? Could it be some initialisation write that is failing?

It does not save anything outside of the Documents/

mags and dr, are either of your running the game as a restricted user (i.e. not as an Administrator) on the machine? Just trying to work out what might have changed in the update to cause the problem.
Cheers

Hi, firepowerjohan
actually I could not find an error.log file in the game directory.
Obviously i found the same file as mags4eva (java. util. concurrent. rejectedexecutionexception
at java. util. concurrent. threadpo........) but the only other error logs are in the :
following directory: ....MHCEAW/com/exe4j/runtime/util and ....MHCEAW/com/install4j/runtime
ErrorHandler.class
InternalErrorFrame.class
InternalErrorFrame$1.class
Is one of these files of any use for mailing to you??
Greetings Lennart

I am unable to mail the error log as it seems to have vanished. I decided to install the ceaw v106 demo just to see what would happen, when i attempt to run the demo i keep getting the following error message "The jvm could not be started. The main method may have thrown an exception". I have accepted that the game may not be at fault because i am also having proplems with my internet connection freezing which could also be caused by proplems with java, i have searched the internet for java related proplems and so far have found nothing that helps or works. Does anyone know what the "patch err file" is related to, it can be found in the "jre" file, if you think it could be relavent i will post what it reads, thanks for still trying.
