I can no longer rename units! Tried in the new DLC and in an old DLC and no luck!

Try this: Rename the unit, then click the Cancel button instead of Confirm. A bug has been detected in version 9.0.6 by which either the in-game unit renaming buttons have been mislabeled or their functions have been reversed.
