Complete noob to this game and Ancients as a whole. Long time Warhammer player. Easy question. Got the rule book. Got Rise of Rome Army book to get me started. Bought a few boxes of 1/72 Romans both foot and horse. Then bought foot and horse Celtic Warriors. I have a army list obviously for Rome. I have top buy a second book for an opponent? Went to the FOG web site and saw no army list that would represent a Roman opponent. A Gaul/Celtic/Germanic tribes type opponent. What am I missing here? I dont want Romans fighting Greeks or Medieval Armies so I think I'm missing the obvious. Thanks in advance for any help.

Most of the armies in rise of rome, if not all at some point, fought the romans, even the romans.

For the historical newbs the lack of explicit mention of opposing forces can be confusing. If you want more help feel free to ask. I'm a FoG newb, but not a history newb and there are more than a few out of work Masters of History wandering about here.

Out of interest what figures did you use, Alice?

Each of the books is broadly armies from the same era and geographical proximity so most armies within each book did or could have fought each other. When we play we pick a book and each bring an army from that book so we get actual or reasonably likely historical match-ups.

Got a lot of plastics from Italeri 1/72. They had several types of Romans on foot and mounted. Then I picked up my real love Celtic warriors mounted. Will hunt down foot celts soon. Lot of stuff to digest in books and now basing and painting to be done. Lastly I have to find opponents here in Dallas.

Though the chariots don't get javelins, unless i have a misprint in my Rise of Rome book, which i wouldn't mind as i have a good sized gallic army :)
