ELVES!!!!!!!!!!!1

Ok, ok, we've seen them in LOTR, Warcraft Series, Warhammer, D&D...but i don't mind. I never get tired of commanding those little elves with their bows in the battlefield or in a RPG. Give us some elves (or lookalikes)!!!! And make them misterious, ancient !!!! Background is important and I like my elves to be proficient with magic and ranged weapons, soft-spoken (i.e, no one knows what they're really talking about) and with all the cliches throw-in.

Anyone else?

Don't care about the others...Elves are better!!!!!!!!!!!!! Elves can wipe out any other race in the battlefield !!!!!!!!!! 8) 8) 8)

It makes me think about Tolkien's great impact in today's society. The notion of elves (ancient culture, two-legged...) is Tolkien's, AFAIK (elves' look was already there, in northern mithologies). And we want Dwarves and Orcs and Goblins because Tolkien put them in his books...

I want an Empire too, as Miki said, opressing and tiranic empire, if possible  (humans, of course)

I like elves myself, but really it is shocking what modern games and movies have made of them. These skinny, blond, pointy-eared monstrosities are an insult to the Eldar of Tolkien's conception.

Just once in a commercial product, I'd like to see elves who approximate the "real" qualities of the Firstborn. Not weak, thin-chested and effeminate poofs who barely have the strength to draw a bow, and wouldn't last five minutes hand-to-hand with a reasonably sturdy Girl Scout armed with a banana. In the name of "play balance," elves were made into wimps to compensate for their mystical powers, in the name of an Aryan aesthetic they were made into flaxen-haired toast racks, and in the name of exotica, they were given ears that would make Spock blush. Yuck. Do us a favor, Slitherine, and don't perpetuate the same atrocities.

I **** hate Elves.
If someone has no ideas, he uses Elves.

Elves are the cancer of fantasy.
They are the oldest, most magically gifted race that gives birth to the best swordfighters and archers.
Elves are the race for the players that want "better" humans, but dont want to be bothered with real originality.

EDIT - please do not use this type of langauge. Thanks, The Slitherine Team.

Damn, you gotta admire a man who speaks his mind :)

I don't actually agree here, or only a little bit, but I do respect the courage of your convictions :)

Sorry for the work I caused the Slitherine Crew...
(Im not sorry for using bad languge :P).

But my feelings ARE pretty intense on that issue.
Fantasy has so much potential, but most of it is wasted because the creators dont want or are not able to come up with anything else than "magic-elves and violent-orks".

A good background is not the best copy of old stereotypes.
A good background consists of a few known topics, spiced up with many fresh ideas.

I'd be delighted to see Elves in the game, just as long as I can play against them.

I want to pillage their palaces, piss in their wine, burn their lyres and steal their jewelry. Most of all, I want those pretentious overdressed androgenous freaks to DIE. I want to see their dismembered corpses in HEAPS.

Therlun is right, Elves are a cancer.

Mmm, somebody revived this topic again :)

Actually, if you look at the elves of Tolkien's mythology, they are not really overpowered, in a game sense.

Look at the Battle of Five Armies, at the end of The Hobbit. The elvish forces did their share, but no more than any others, and Tolkien makes a point of saying they suffered heavy casualties.

You know elves are probably originated from Icelandic (I'm Icelandic) tales where they live somewhere in the hills and usually keep hidden unless they want to do some mischief? Perhaps you could give the elves a whole new look (possibly including wool clothes and sheepskin hats) and even make them alittle evil, perhaps on the orc's side?

That would give the game alittle unique look, wouldnt it?

Ehh, not really.

"Dark Elves" have been an RPG staple for 2 decades or more.

If you mean that the elves being alittle evil wouldnt be unique, I agree with you, but it would be kind of new to have them wearing old-fashioned nordic farmer's clothes, wouldn't it? If you don't mean ehh, not really to something else, I'm sorry if I don't understand your post

Right, right, I meant evil anti-elves are nothing new.

As far as what they wear, ahhhhh, sartorial considerations hadn't even entered my mind :)

You have a nice vocabulary mate, sadly I cant say the same bout myself  but can I ask you what sartorial considerations are?
