As anyone tired the mortal hero option yet? How is the attrition rate? Do you lose them steadily, or only when your unit get clobbered? Is it just the regular heroes, or can the special ones get killed as well? I am considering trying it in '43, but would like to know what others have thought about it.

is that new in the advanced options setup? is it available for 39, 40, 41? is it -1.-2,-3 or a 42 exclusive? great questions but I'll replay one of the others just to test it

It, along with "Limited Supply" are new options for campaign starts from the last update. I haven't tried the Mortal Heroes one (because not saying the odds* is annoying and makes committing to it difficult to stomach), but I have tried Limited Supply.
Limited Supply is a good idea, but seems broken, you can't buy transports for anything while the option is active and since you lose anything you put into an auxiliary slot (even if it survives), it also makes auxiliaries even worse. Hopefully Mortal Heroes isn't as game-crippling.
*Edit: The option says a chance to die when the unit takes damage. That sounds like it means you can lose a hero mid-round if you take 1 damage on a unit and get unlucky. For me, that means I'd never put heroes on anything ever. If the option were about losing heroes when the units die, that's one thing, but taking damage is so common that even a 1% chance would be enough to guarantee every hero would die on every unit eventually.

do you know if there is then a killed in action tab so you can keep track? be damn hard to do it otherwise. wonder if u lose the Zero Slots Hero what happens? does HAL let you continue playing whilst over the slot limit or immediately enforce the loss? that would be devastating. lose a OS15, double attack, lethal attack, quick setup 21 artillery in mid stream. anyone know?

It's the last two options in the Advanced Options menu when starting a campaign.

I don't think going above slot limit during scenarios will cost you the unit. You have already received so many gift units that arrives during it and nothing happened, right?

Reminds me of OoB's hero management, heroes assigned to a unit has chance to be injured when unit takes damage, and forced to leave the unit before they are healed, when you can reassign them somewhere. And I HATE that behavior.
