Rome nerfed?

I have played a lot of this game.

In every previous game I played, AI Rome created a great empire, taking all of Italy, Corsica, Sardinia, Sicily, the province of Africa, the Balkan areas across the Adriatic, and expanded into Greece, and often Asia minor, usually fighting a massive war with Macedon. it would often have an even bigger empire, and often had the most legacy points. It was a formidable opponent.

In my current game as Dacia, at turn 170, Rome has all of Italy, a few Gallic regions, three regions in Sicily, and that is it. Nothing in Africa, the Balkans, or Greece. Nothing in Asia minor. They do not appear to be expanding at all.

In many previous games, I have never seen AI Rome so weak.

Is this WAD?

Results vary widely between games, you can see 3 in a row with a weak Rome and then the 6 other will see Rome rules the world. There are too many variables, this is chaos and the butterfly effect! But over a great number of games, you'll see some nations rise much more often than others, this is certain.

Thank you for the explanation, Pocus. It makes sense, there are so many variables. This was just the first time I saw a weak Rome, though I have played this game
consistently since it came out a couple of years ago.

I would say that Macedonia has, so far, always been a superpower. But maybe I will see a weak Macedonia next time. I must say, fighting them as Dacia has been both challenging and a lot of fun.
