Silver Shields and Companions don't actually get built

It appears that in the 310 campaign, Silver Shields and Companion Cavalry don't actually get built when added to the build queue as of patch 1.39, though the cost is still paid. How has nobody else noticed this?

Note that this doesn't seem to affect Antigonus, only the states where these units are supposed to be limited in quantity (where the limit isn't correct anyway - Epirus and Bactria can add two Companion units to the queue instead of the supposed one, but they're ghost units). I hope this gets fixed soon, as most Hellenistic states are effected by this, and possibly even other types of units where the quantity is limited.
Maybe also the AI will be crippled by constantly paying for these ghost units but not actually getting them, but I'm not sure if they're trying to build those.

Well, someone's gotta be first, and in this case it was you.
Thanks for report!

Can you check if you can recruit Companion Cavalry as Epirus in the 310 BC Campaign? I can.

Playing as Seleucids, I can replace the one starting Companions or Silver Shields if it is lost. If they are in play, it looks like I can build more (add them to the build queue) but they do not appear.

It appears I can, if there isn't one already. However it allows me to add a second one to the queue, which won't actually get built. I remember not being able to add more than the limit before, why can we do so now? It's very misleading.

I see, I'll check what has changed then, thanks.

Have you noticed that the unit gets into the que but turns red?

Yes, that's a change to see potential units, but it seems to have some bugs...

tes, i thought the change was helpful, as it also tells you what is missing (eg a building) what happens with the silver shields and companians is a bit different though.
in the selection pool they are green, you can add them into the queue then when in the queue they stay there but turn red. i suspect that may be why some of the cost elements are taken but you get no unit produced. as i guess the test for costs is before it turns red but the test for getting the unit is after ie next turn)

How can you tell if there is a build limit on a particular unit?

There is no indication, but only Silver shields and companions are limited to 1 I believe. The other are costlier the more you have, but that's shown in a tooltip in the monetary cost icon, in the build unit panel (the detail, where you see the 3D model of the unit).

Thank you, Pocus, that answers my question.
However, I thought the only units that increased in cost as you built more were provincial units.
Do non provincial units increase in cost as you build more? I do check the costs of all units as I consider building them, but I have never noticed an increase in the cost of non provincial units, though I usually build a large number of some particular types, such as light cavalry and skirmishers.

No, there are several non-provincial units that have incremental cost increases with each build. Egyptian war elephants, for example. It makes sense to put costs/limits on rare units even if they are not provincial. It is a great design feature of the game. You can build dozens of elite "X", but it will cost you. Of course, if you have the gold then recruit away.

Thanks for the explanation. I agree that it is a great feature.
