I'm bought the game last week & have had been having quite a lot of fun tinkering with it. I'm presently playing the Stalingrad scenario & trying to cross the water to Krasnaya. The problem is, I don't seem able to take to the water as I have "No transports available in the pool."

Do I have to acquire & deploy paratroopers somehow or is there something I'm missing?

I don't think you need to cross the water. You could use paratroopers if you really wanted to, but there isn't anything to be gained by doing that. The mission itself only requires taking things on the west bank of the river. With what you need to take depending on whether you want to play the historic route, or allow for the path the winning the war (provided you took the extra victory hexes in Moscow).

The Krasnaya-hex only works as a supply-hex for the Soviets, it is not a victory-hex.

if you were able to take the hex with paratroopers would Soviet supply then be prevented from reaching the west bank?

Thank you. I misunderstood the briefing and got it in my head that I'd have to conquer Krasnaya at some point. I wasn't looking forward to the effort as there are like 15 infantry over there all massed in close combat city hexes. So I'll just keep an eye on the area and try to blow them up as there try to cross the straight.
