generals whos unit is lost

Ran into a situation today in a game where my unit of Companions died after 2 bad death rolls leaving their general high and dry surrounded by enemy BG's. I could not move to any friendly units since I was surrounded by 3 enemy units. My nearest friendly unit was 7 MU away, but that was measuring straight through a unit of enemy spears. We decided since he had been in combat when this occurred and could not make it to a friendly unit he is eliminated, as per the rules.
Does this make sense or should he have been able to run away and try to get back to a friendly unit.

if, immediatly after the lost of ur BG, ur general can't reach another friendly BG with his normal move distance and without touching ennemy BG in its pass, he's lost.

I don't think this is true. As long as the general passed his death roll, he remains in place after the BG is removed from play. He can move during a JAP or normal Movement Phase, but he is only forced to move if shot at or contacted by an enemy BG. Then he must be able to reach a friendly BG or else he is destroyed. Of course such contact may still apply if a pursuer remained in contact with the lost BG.

What Terry said ...

He may be able to make a Wellington Qautre-Bras style escape

Does any one have a page reference for:

"if, immediatly after the lost of ur BG, ur general can't reach another friendly BG with his normal move distance and without touching ennemy BG in its pass, he's lost."

Or a similar situation to this.

Had first game last night and this issue came up.

We are still trying to navigate the book so we found everything but this.

This rule is on page 50 (continuing movement of Commanders section).

My intepretation is that if your BG move would take it within shoting range or into contact with an unaccompanied general then the general must attempt to move tojoin a friendly BG within normal move distance.
