Slitherine

I've never played Master of Magic and am unsure of what to install. There appear to be five pieces: Master of Magic base game, its most recent update, Caster of Magic, its recent update, and Caster of Magic for Windows. Must all of these be installed, and if so, in what order? I'm running Win10.

All you need is the base game & the Caster of Magic for windows dlc.
You do not need the original CoM dlc.

I am also a total newbie. Let's see if I understand it right:

1. MoM-MultiSetup-v1.3.1 is the basic game.

2. CasterOfMagic-UpdateComp-v6.07 is the patch to the basic game.

3. MoM-MultiSetup-v2.00.00 is the new caster of magic edition.

So I guess that you need install 1. at first. Upon it you can choose to install either 2. OR 3.

I own the GOG version (for some time now).
Per the latest GOG version all you need is the base 1.0 game & the 1.0 Caster of Magic for windows.
No need for the original CoM dlc; which btw, was not an update to the base game...just a dlc, albeit a very good one.
Same for Steam & I, suspect, for the Slitherine version.
