Any advice? Units take too many losses to become experienced.

Someone is always getting killed. It seems like the only way to build up great units is to consistently shield specific units from casualties and only attack targets of opportunity that have been weakened first by 'throwaway' units. All this eats up prestige, and balancing speed and aggression with unit conversation poses serious problems in terms of capturing strategic objectives.
