Could someone please tell how to completely turn off the map tooltips that keep popping up?

You mean those indicating e.g. 'Open Ground (Hill). Height: 50' ?
You can't turn off those messages (without modding the game).
Probably because you really need them all the time.
I for one don't even notice them anymore when I don't need to read them. A question of being used to it.

Not even by modding the game. They are created in the engine - we can only add to them, not turn them off completely.

Thx for the info. I was 'afraid' of that and thought of at least deleting the texts (in text.txt), replacing them with a space or making them smaller (kind of a code, a few letters...). Nothing nice.
