so how do battles work in MP. are they played out automatically ?

also how does MP lobby works in terms of finding people for a campaign, is it like fog2 or something else?

Battles are all automated using the in-game system indeed.

You'll have bigger chances to find opponents by making some announcement or forum search here, compared to looking at open MP games without password.

I am in the same boat. I've done a few single player games, and would like to dip my toe into MP, either Vanilla or Persia and can commit to at least 3 turns a week (assuming time zone shenanigans), but I have no clue how to get into a game.

Is there drop in play? Can I drop into a in progress game and control a nation halfway through the game?

Go to multiplayer, accept challenge and a list of games will appear, those in Green you can join, some currently looking to be filled have a 2 day turn timer so that might work you.

I don't believe you can join a game in progress.

No you can't hot join, sorry.

Should I go back to Diplomacy? Ah, those were the days - zines, conventions etc.
