Hi, I’m just getting into FoG and am currently putting together New Kingdom Egyptians as my first army. I’m after some advice/comments on the balance of a 900 point army that must run 4 generals for a doubles tournament that is themed for the StE book. Am hoping to get a few practice runs in with it before the tournament and need to get some extra figures to beef up what I already have, so need to plan ahead a bit.

Anyway, here’s Plan A

1 BG HF, Armoured, Sup, Drilled, Light Spear/Sword (4 bases, Egyptian Guard)
1 BG HF, Armoured, Sup, Drilled, Impact Foot/Sword (4 bases, Sherden Guard)
1 BG MF, Protected, Av, Undrilled, Impact Foot/Sword (8 bases, Sea People)
1 BG LF, Unprotected, Sup, Undrilled, Bow (8 bases, Nubian archers)
1 BG LF, Unprotected, Av, Undrilled, Javelin, Light Spear (6 bases, Bedouin Jav)

I’d originally sketched out a 1000 point army that had 4 more chariots and some more Close Fighters, Sea Peoples and LF, but as it’s now for 900 point armies I’ve come up with this at 899 points, if my maths is correct. Thought I should keep all the drilled HF and the Nubian Sup Bow, and have also kept some of the Bedouin LF to skirmish with.

Any comments appreciated, as this is my first attempt at a FoG army.

Mark, Just my thoughts -

I think 2FC is too much, and would be tempted to just use TC's for both instead.

Consider upgrading the Sea People's BG to a 10. It is fearsome at this size.

Reduce the Egyptian foot. I think 1 of 8 is enough for them, or maybe 2 at most.

Add more chariots, the strength of this army. Add another BG of light foot if you can. You need to slow people down either while you attempt to make something happen or run some of the foot away if someone is attacking them.

With the Egyptian close fighters I would go for BGs of 6 bases, not 8s

You have IMO gone waaaaay over the top on commanders. An IC, 2 FCs and a TC!!! You really don't need that much and won't be able to take full advantage. The only good reason to have an FC as a sub commander is to lead an outflanking march and that is not really needed with your army.

Looks very similar to a version I used last night - in fact the only difference is that I have only gone for 8 Close Fighters and bought more Sherden.

Oh and I only bought 4 TC's, which meant that my army was only 800 pts...

Thanks for the feedback. I had, rather naively from the look of it , thought that the IC and FC would give me more control over a larger area. If I downgrade to TCs and cut some Close Fighters, I will definitely be able to add more chariots (16 or 20) more Sea People and an extra BG of LF.

Is 2 BGs of 10 bases of Sea People OTT? Might try various options before the comp and see what works. Hopefully this will give it a bit more balance and staying power.

An IC and 2 FCs will give you a huge potential area that would be in command range of your generals but I would exect that most likely you would end up with the FCs being within the radius of the IC anyway. Remember you on't actually need to be in command radius to move, it just makes complex manuevers easier.

IMO two 10s is a good contingent. With 10 bases it will need 4 shooting hits to cause a cohesion test and you can run them in three ranks 4,4,2 so as to have a couple of 'spare' bases
