Hey folks, just bought the game on Steam, I'm super excited.

In trying to download and install the game, I ran into a disk write error several times. I've downloaded other games from my library just to make sure they worked, and they all installed and ran fine.

I managed to successfully install the game one time out of about 5 attempts. Once installed, I was able to select the right version of the game (in this case, the Community Patch) and play, but once I quit, my save file disappeared. I was able to relaunch and hit "continue," but the file I saved in the first save slot didn't appear, and the game's main menu didn't include the "Load Game" menu item.

I thought it might be because I use different drives for my OS, the Steam app, and my Steam library, so I tried uninstalling and reinstalling on each drive, and all of them shared the same problem.

Any advice?

EDIT: a few words for clarity

It sounds like a Steam client issue really - you might get more insight in the Steam Tech Support forums (that is - the forums for Steam Tech Support, rather than the Steam forum for the game).

Ok, a followup with further troubleshooting steps. Looks like there are two separate issues: the download and the save file problem.

The one I really care about is the save file issue, and after a little more testing, it looks like that issue only happens on the Community Patch version of the game. The basic version and the Caster version both save and load files as expected.
@Slitherine: is there something else I should be testing about this issue?

The download problem:

* Tested several more game installations. All install and run fine.
* Test several more Steam Workshop mod installations for other games. All install and run fine.
* Cleared Steam client download cache. Same behavior: four attempts unsuccessful, fifth one successful, no save files found by the game.
* Changed Steam client download region several times. Same behavior as above.
* Noticed the "disk write error" message in the Steam client downloads view had hover-text. The text name the Master of Magic Manual PDF and listed the file path for it. I'm not super concerned about missing the manual for the original game, so I'm ready to move on, but I figured y'all would want to know about it. A wild speculation on my part: maybe my antivirus or my PDF reader (with some onboard security features) is looking at that file as suspicious?
